1972 Chevy C10 Pickup Truck 5.3l LS Swap Shortbed 12 Bolt Posi Rear-end Resto
1972 Chevrolet C-10 CST Description
1972 Chevy C10 pickup truck with clean title in my name. If you’re looking for a clean, classic truck with a modern fuel-injected motor that starts everyday, this is it. Absolutely ZERO rust and Zero body filler. Finished in Chevrolet factory “Medium Olive” paint, my favorite. Its been fitted with a brand new 5.3l LS motor and good 4L60 transmission. This truck originally started out as a long bed C20 CST but has since been converted utilizing a factory, short wheelbase C10 frame with a 12 bolt posi rear-end. This was an original, rust-free, unmolested factory A/C truck when I purchased it 6 years ago. The body has since been taken off, frame/components powdercoated and put back together. I’ve put about 1000 miles on it since completed and while it isn’t a concourse/show quality truck, it sure is an incredibly clean and reliable daily driver. It puts a smile on my face when I turn the key and listen to it rumble to life. This truck fires up on the first crank every time. I’ve driven this truck up to 11,000 ft and back down to 4,000 ft elevation with no problems. Modern, fuel-injected motors are awesome.
Pretty much everything on the truck is new or restored. New suspension, new brake system (Master cylinder, brake booster, brake lines, fittings, calipers, pads, rotors, etc...), new ball joints/tie rods, new power steering pump/lines, brand new 17" wheels/tires (BFG “G-Force” 235-50-17 tires up front and Hankook 275-50-17” tires in the rear), new LS motor, new interior (carpet, dynamat sound deadening, etc.), and the bed floor has been rhino-lined. I have years and stacks of receipts dating back to 3 years ago when I began pulling the body off the frame to begin the restoration. The exhaust system is 3” all the way with headers and Magnaflow mufflers. This truck sounds absolutely amazing and has no problem lighting up the rear tires when desired. The heater/fan system work great, although I haven’t gotten around to finishing the A/C system. Its not that difficult to utilize the factory LS A/C compressor and make up new lines to mate up with the factory dash components and condenser. I’m so used to rolling the window down or opening the vent windows that I haven’t made it a priority. The factory radio works but I don’t have the new door speakers hooked up. Honestly, the LS motor with 3” magna-flow exhaust sounds so good that there is no reason to turn on the radio. The motor and exhaust system sound superb.
This C10 has CPP 2” drop spindles and 2” lowering springs in the front, the rear has 4” lowering springs installed. 12 bolt posi rear-end with 3.73 gears. I’ve installed dual electric fans up front that turn on at 187 degrees, this truck has never overheated or been anything but reliable thus far. Transmission cooler is installed for the 4L60 transmission. The motor was broken in with correct oil and zinc additive, with fresh oil change done after break-in. The fuel gauge is a bit off, it has a new fuel sender but might need a resistor (?) in order to read 100% correct. The brand new fuel tank has been relocated from behind the bench seat for safety reasons and installed between the rear bed rails. Speedo works with Dakota Digital Cable drive speed signal installed. Headlights, tailights, turn signals all work as they should. New rear wiring harness. New door seals/gaskets (doors shut hard but that will get better when seals break in), new front windshield and gasket and new vent window/rear glass gaskets have been fitted. Brand new, 3-point seat belts have been installed. New custom driveshaft installed to the rear end. Brand new Griffen Performance Aluminum radiator in tandem with the new dual electric fans up front. The factory LS 5.3 ECU has been fitted behind the radiator core support on the driver side and looks very clean. The truck still retains the original, factory grill which shows signs of wear but is overall fairly clean. I have tried to use as many factory parts as possible because they just fit much better than reproduction parts.
As mentioned earlier, its not a concours truck so please don’t expect that upon delivery. There is a scratch on the driver door from my 4 yr old and a few paint chips here and there from storage. There is a small paint mistake underneath the back cab trim where the painter messed up the line between the two-tone white/green. You don’t really notice it unless you look close, this could fairly easily be fixed with a small paint correction if the next owner chooses. I have not hooked up the e-brake cables as I don’t ever park on a hill. Incomplete A/C system but everything I have will be included. The truck drives nice and straight down the road and has gobs of power thanks to the new LS motor. I have a box of random spare parts and things that might come in handy for the next owner.
I posted a youtube video of a cold start. https://youtu.be/bJKebHysM-I
