1969 Chevrolet Camaro Description
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Very Dry California/Montana Car LeMans Blue on Black Vinyl 7,100 Miles on 327 / Hydramatic VIN: 124379L528858 Assembly Plant: Can Nuys, California Color: LeMans Blue, Black Vinyl Top (71B) Trim: Black, Standard (711) Assembly Date: April, Second Week (04B) Engine: 5.4L 327ci V8, 1968 (#3914660) Transmission: Turbo Hydramatic 350 3spd Automatic Rear End: 3.08 Ratio, 10-Bolt, 8.2” We purchased this ‘69 Camaro out of Montana, where it had been with the same owner since 1985. He had purchased the car out of California all those years ago, and had it repainted the same LeMans Blue color shortly thereafter. Originally a 307-powered car, in 2010 the owner had what he describes as a “freshly rebuilt 327 and overhauled transmission” installed, as well as replaced the tires and had the engine bay refinished. At this time the odometer had just rolled over, and just over 7,000 miles have been driven since. This is a very nice driver-level example, ready to be used and enjoyed straightaway. Exterior: Please give the photos and walkaround video a good look, as the car is shown in detail. Paint was done nearly 30 years ago, so while it looks good and is the correct color, it’s certainly not of the highest caliber. There are a whole bunch of chips on the lower front valence, as well as along the forward portion of the rockers. There’s one spot of rust on the car, and that is located at the lower corner of the driver’s front fender where it meets the rocker. Aside from that, car really is impressively dry. Doors open and close nice and smooth, panel fitment is spot on. Black vinyl top shows some age and is wrinkling a bit at the very back. Wheels are in nice shape, free of any significant oxidation or damage, and the BFG Radial TA tires are date coded 2010. Glass and light lenses are clear and crack-free, and windows all roll up smoothly and fit snug to the top. Interior: Again, please defer to the photos and video. Interior looks good aside from two things—the black carpeting is frayed and tired, and the dash pad is peeling up from the front just above the glovebox. Aftermarket tachometer and temp/voltage/fuel pressure gauges are all functional. Odometer is functional as well, and the 7,100 miles indicated shows rough mileage since the current engine and trans were swapped in. Fuel gauge is not functional. Radio is functional. The knob/lever for the blower control is missing, so we aren't sure if the fan is good or not. This car does not have air conditioning. Lights and signals are all functional. Seats are in nice shape, nothing more than minor wear. Headliner is clean and tight. Wood inserts in the interior look good, some chipping, no hairline cracks though. Underbody/Under the Hood: Please take a look at the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. This car was born in California and has spent the last 35 years in the dry, no-salt state of Montana. Really, really good condition underneath. No evidence of any prior metal work whatsoever. The car does drip a bit of oil after being exercised and parked, no evidence of any other leaks. Casting numbers are nice and clear throughout, indicating that the 327 is from 1968 and the rear end is a 3.08 10-bolt. The car fires right up, idles nice and steady, pulls HARD through the gears, shifts smoothly and on-time, brakes straight and effectively, and tracks straight down the road. We do not have any sort of engine build sheet or rebuild record, so unfortunately we cannot know the internal engine specifics. Listening to it and driving it, there’s definitely a slightly more aggressive cam than would be stock. This car really moves in a straight line, and sounds angry doing it. See the video for a sound clip. Suspension is nice and tight, no wandering, wallowing, creaks, or other noises of concern, and the rear shocks appear to be relatively new.
