1980 Chevrolet Corvette 4-Speed Description

The third generation C3 Corvette ran from 1968 to 1982. The early chrome bumper cars have long been coveted by collectors. Now the final edition cars, recognized by enthusiasts for their great looking fully integrated bumper covers are being snatched up by collectors who recognize the up trending value of the 1980-1982 model Corvettes. Not surprisingly, the really good ones are becoming ever more scarce and of those the 4-Speed manual cars are even more so.
This 1980 Corvette is one of the good ones. Very good in fact. This example is as close to new as you may find. It has been meticulously refreshed, sporting its original colors and has had a few important performance upgrades all without altering the original stock appearance inside, outside or under the hood. The clutch engages properly and the transmission shifts perfectly through all four gears. Many will be quick to say that these cars were under-powered, strangled by emissions controls. But when looking at other world class sports cars offered in 1980 the L48 equipped Corvette's 190 horsepower and 280 ft lbs of torque looks pretty healthy compared to the Ferrari 308 GTS' 214hp/179ft-lbs and the Porsche 911 SC's 180hp/175ft-lbs. When coupled to the close ratio Muncie 4-speed the Corvette is able to fully leverage its torque advantage making for a very fun and competitive car to drive.
GM produced a lot of Corvettes, over 40,000 in 1980 alone. A good percentage of those were either modified, rode hard or neglected to the point of no return. When you consider that less than 6,000 of them were 4-Speeds you can begin to understand why the good original examples are seeing steady price appreciation.
