With merely just a passing glance at this Tri-5, you immediately know that this is a very nice car. It's coated in dialed-in India Ivory over Skyline Blue paint, which means the painters had to spend a ton of time on it to get it right, making sure everything was flat and straight, that panels lined up just right, and that the paint was applied smoothly and consistently. No short cuts were taken, there are no signs of botched workmanship, it's just a solid piece of Americana that's ready to rock with a new owner. It was never meant to be a show car, just a very solid driver-quality Tri-5 that could be shown off with pride at any venue. Sure, it's been driven and enjoyed since the restoration and shows some signs of use, but that does nothing to diminish the quality of the work and it seems to defy the years; I mean, just look at the reflections in the quarter panels! And if you wanted to kick it up a notch, a professional clay bar and wax would really make it pop. All the chrome and trim, and yes, there's quite a bit of it even on the 150 models, is in good condition and provides great shine against the light colors, from the beautiful bumpers and the adjoining bumper guards, the open-mouth front grille, and the iconic profile trim that helps to separate the two colors.
The two-tone, black-and-white vinyl interior has a wonderful, inviting look and is a perfect complement to the bright exterior. The bench seats and matching door panels feature beautifully stitched patterns that don't go to any extremes, with a classic look that feels sophisticated and timeless inside. The materials used inside are of high quality and show very little signs of use, resulting in an atmosphere that seems to beckon you to climb inside. The black carpets are fresh and incredibly plush, fully insulating the cabin from the outside world, and the contrasting white headliner above is pulled taut and in great shape as well. The black dash sparkles with a polished insert running its width, and the factory gauge bezel ahead of the driver is filled with factory units that have been augmented by a trio of auxiliary units underneath, and a tachometer strapped to the column. The wood-rimmed 3-spoke steering wheel is the most obvious mod, but there's also an aftermarket A/C unit that was neatly installed, an Alpine AM/FM/CD/AUX/Bluetooth stereo system in the dash, and a chrome Hurst 4-speed shifter on the floor topped with a cue ball knob. Everything gels together seamlessly inside, which shows that the upgrades were never meant to impeded the original look and feel of this '55. Out back, the spacious trunk was neatly finished with black carpet and houses a bias-ply spare tire, just like it did when it was new.
You already know this car is a runner, and thanks to the thumping 383 Stroker V8 crate motor under the hood, it should continue to do so for years to come. A few dress-up parts like the chrome air cleaner and chrome valve covers make it look great, and all the hardware is first rate and built to drive. Notable performance upgrades include BluePrint aluminum heads, a noticeable cam, a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, a performance intake manifold, and an MSD ignition that fires the whole show up. It's backed by the aforementioned 4-speed manual transmission and stock rear end, so it just burbles along on the highway without taking the edge off acceleration. Long-tube headers feed a rumbling Flowmaster dual exhaust that sounds fantastic and provides a great driving experience, and one peek underneath at the painted floor pans, powdercoated frame, and fresh suspension components, and you'll see this is a Tri-5 you could show off with mirrors underneath. Chrome Cragar SS wheels are always a great addition, and they're all wrapped in 225/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A whitel-letter radials to finish off the killer look.
