1930 Chevrolet Sedan Description

1930 Chevrolet Sedan

The period between the end of the war in 1945 and the beginning of the 1950's saw a number of factors which came together, mainly in one place, southern California, which created a unique environment for the hot rod and its culture to be born. In the hot rods history, the term "hot rods" seems to have first appeared in the late 1930s in southern California. People would love to race their modified cars on the vast, empty dry lake beds northeast of Los Angeles under the rules of the Southern California Timing Association.

Let see, open the checklist: Open to the air engine...check, plenty of chromed bling...check, 1930s body chopped...check, wild side pipes fully open...check, Cragar wheels...check, big block Chevy...check, 48 star American flag headliner...check, new comfortable interior...check, original frame, boxed...check. Well now I think we have a hot rod! A custom build that is wilder than the open forest floor creatures, and looking cool.

Exterior
As I run my comb through my greasy hair and perfect my DA, I next grab a cigarette from the pack in my shirt sleeve, light it and start my walk around. I see a 1930 Chevrolet two door sedan all metal body which has been chopped 4 inches, and it has a patina black painted body draped in clearcoat. Factory tinted windows (no film at 11 here kids) and pro pin striping by Big Daddy George. This 5 window has an all steel ribbed reinforced roof, and a metal visor on the exterior above the front windshield. Lucky 13 she's dubbed and she's looking like a million bucks with the chromed radiator surround leading the way topped by a winged thermostat radiator cap. Nice chromed and curved front suspension and rear bumper components and those wild open side pipes which make their way from the engine sides and dive sharply downward the rise to the heavens like organ pipes, and put out sound as heavenly as the music produced from its inspirations. New Cragar wheels are on all 4 fender less corners, and on back a set of Towel City Radial whitewall Pie Crust Cheeter slicks, complete with a water "squirt" system to allow you to smoke 'em if ya got 'em. This car thinks of everything and it is all attached!

Interior
Red recovered high back 1970 Corvette buckets with nifty black piping surrounds, now float in a sea of red carpet. Sitting proudly in the center is a Lokar shifter with a 28-inch extension and a pool ball topper (stripes not solids). Stitched tuck and roll door panels have red vinyl uppers and black crushed velvet lowers. Fronting the dash is a chromed adjustable steering column with a modern banjo style rally wheel on top. This fronts a custom dash bathed with a red painted metal topper and curved brushed stainless panel for the white faced VDO instruments and there is plenty to go around as they stretch across the dash. Hanging below the dash is a Pioneer AM/FM/CD player with a USB port, and a 12-volt plug in for the charger on your phone. In back the rear seat has been since removed, and a wood deck and a wood trunk adds more storage, and 3 way woofers and tweeters are mounted on the interior "C" pillars. I'm now standing at attention as a 48 star American flag makes up the headliner centered within a sea of the black velvet...God Bless America!

Drivetrain
Speaking of America, apple pie and Chevrolet, a monster 454ci Chevrolet big block now sits in the open chromed engine bay. It has within its cast walls a Comp cam shaft, 219 intake, and 219 exhaust @ .050 duration. The original iron heads were machined, and a 750 Quickfuel double pumper carburetor is on top. On back is a Turbo 350 transmission and helping those big pipes vent exhaust are a dual set of Sanderson Zoomie Headers. A Ford 9-inch rear is on back with 3-inch rear studs.

Undercarriage
The hits just keep on commin' with an original frame which has been beautifully boxed, and all buttoned up rust free metal floorpans and pristine rockers. A Heidts front suspension has been strapped on, and on the rear a 4 link with custom suspension coil over shocks now cushions the ride. This car also has a line lock and rack and pinion power steering as well as power front big disc brakes, and rear drums.

Drive-Ability
A fine hot rod which has the uncanny ability to put mileage on the rear tires and the car is not even moving forward! How'd dey do dat? A line lock and water squirting may have something to do with it. Seriously plenty of power, good brakes and even a decent ride from this rodder. I found the speedometer to be inoperable, but honestly who cares?!

Everything but the kitchen sink on this custom build, which uses the shiny patina look, plenty of chrome and that massive 454ci mill open for all the world to view, and friends we are now in California, 1946, and ready to kick someone's ass.
