1966 Corvette Roadster
Black with Black Leather Interior
427/425hp Engine
Up for auction is my 1966 Corvette Roadster, a very rare car in Tuxedo Black with black leather interior. The Corvette was available in 10 colors in 1966, and black is the most rare, with only 1190 of the 27,720 cars (4%) painted in black. Leather interior is also very rare, with only 2002 cars coming with this option (7%). Original trim tag confirms both of these options (PAINT 900 = Tuxedo Black and TRIM 402 = Black Leather), making this is a doubly-rare and highly desirable car.
The heart of the car is the awesome 427 / 425 hp engine. It is matching numbers and date correct, and was fully rebuilt in June of 2012 by T.G’s Performance engine Shop in Gardena, CA. Engine work included new cam, cam bearings, lifters, main bearing, rod bearings, and oil pump. The engine has less than 500 miles on it since the rebuild and runs very strong.
Options Include:
· C07 Auxillary Hardtop (unrestored)
· L72 Engine 427/425 hp
· M21 4-speed transmission, Close Ratio
· N14 Side Mount Exhaust System
· N32 Teakwood Steering Wheel
· N40 Power Steering
· P48 Aluminum Knock-Off Wheels
· T01 Goldwall Tires
· U69 AM/FM Radio
The options are the car are really great – the 427 engine sounds amazing through the side pipes, and the power steering makes her easy to drive. The wood rimmed teak wheel is a beautiful offset against the all black interior, and the chrome on the car is all very good with no pitting. Convertible top is in excellent as-new condition and opens, closes and locks easily. The odometer shows 39,000 miles but total mileage is unknown.
I have owned the car for about 11 years and it has always been properly maintained. Other more recent work includes rechroming the window & vent frames on both doors (rarely done and for good reason – it’s a lot of work!), headlight motors adjusted, rebuild of the brake master cylinder, and a new battery. Engine is not original to the car, but was restamped to be matching-numbers during the restoration, per National Corvette Restoration Society guidelines. Block and heads are date-code correct for the car’s build date, which was February 8, 1966. The car has never been NCRS judged and is not documented.
