"The '69 Camaro is now and forever the most cherished muscle car ever made." –Car and Driver, August 2011
Car and Driver is far from alone in hailing the 1969 Camaro. Internet automotive site,, weighed in with: "The '69 Camaro is the most loved car in America." What accounts for this level of passion?
Car and Driver again: "This model year's combination of classic beauty, tidy size, and ample under-hood space makes it a favorite starting point for tuners and collectors. GM vice-president of global design Ed Welburn not only owns one, he all but cloned the '69 Camaro to renew Chevy's fight with the immortal Ford Mustang." It seems the urge to improve on the late-sixties technology is almost irresistible, because as put it: "... leaving the '69 Camaro in pristine, factory-sealed condition is boring."
The highest form the improvements can take goes beyond a resto-mod update of a few components. "True believers call this sect of the car faith Pro Touring (PT). On the sacred tree of motoring, the PT branch thrives several limbs up from hot rods and a couple over from resto-mods. The essential ingredients are outrageous power, 1.0-g cornering and braking capabilities, and stock sheetmetal."
The beautiful pro-touring '69 Camaro offered here is an excellent example of the breed. While the car's appearance is stunning in clear-coated deep blue metallic paint complemented with twin wide silver racing stripes across the cowl-induction hood and the rear deck, the modifications inside and underneath take the car to full pro-tourer. Performance matters.
Noteworthy among the upgrades is the LT1 5.7-liter V8 engine together with the 6-speed Tremec manual transmission. The combination gives the car the best of all worlds: serious power with the ability to bring it to bear across all driving applications, freeway cruising to quarter-mile runs. Custom headers and a dual exhaust pipes with crossover ensure an efficient exhaust flow from the engine. Integrated, stock-appearing spoilers front and rear add appropriate downforce. An oversized staggered-width wheel-tire combination and massive ventilated and cross-drilled disc brakes showing red calipers bring the car to a stop effectively. And a stout shock absorber setup enhances handling.
Inside, many of the car's stock appointments remain. A steering-wheel-mounted Carter tachometer is the most obvious exception. A full console gauge package adds more engine-monitoring capability, and the shift knob's 6-gear pattern is a subtle change no performance-minded driver will miss. Seating surfaces have been returned to original and are free of notable wear or tear. The car's headliner, door panels and carpeting all show beautifully.
While the more than 180 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase the Camaro in detail, we encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance, or get in touch by phone or email if you have any questions.
All the visual delights of "the most cherished muscle car ever made," but with... more muscle, better handling, and 21stcentury overall performance. Who says you can't have it all?
