1970 Chevrolet Impala Custom Coupe
Flashy muscle cars are fun, and polished customs are nice, but for some folks there's nothing better than a well-done cruiser. No gimmicks, no frills and no drama; just sun and fun - LOTS of fun.
This exceptionally clean Impala is a classy stunner that mixes 350 cubes of V8 power along with complete originality. The consigner loved to show the car, and every now and then give it the old clean out by smashing the boot to the floor. So, not unlike the consigner, if you're looking for a cool classic that's road ready, show-ready and just plain battle-ready, it's the perfect way to go to your local cruise in and turn some heads.
Exterior
The only difference between the Impala Sport coupe and this Custom Coupe is the line on the rear window at the B pillar. For this car its vertical...same roofline for the back and body panels virtually the same. Two doors with nice gaps around the straight steel, and shiny body trimmings, which include a full length trim spear, and wheel well and rocker covering stainless all primped and polished, contrasting with the red paint, which is near the deep end of the pool. In keeping with tradition, the trio of taillights has migrated into the rear bumper, which is shiny and mirror-like. Long hood and trunk panels make this an excellent boulevard cruiser with plenty of room to spare. All correct badging, and beautiful grille, there are not many other Impala examples that will be able to catch this one on the visual and attention to detail scale.
Interior
Very original and showroom sums it up! Black square panels with button centers for the door panels that have a vertical hint of wood appliqu and the galloping Impala, and all materials on these doors are straight as arrows. Slipping inside I can nearly smell the showroom with the gorgeous split back front bench and full rear bench, wrapped in perfect black vinyl. Buttons and tuck and roll panels abound and add a bit of texture to the benches. Nearly perfect can describe the dash with crack free and padded black vinyl dash top, wonderful instrument panel, and another wood appliqu panel below housing the climate controls, and radio. The original steering wheel fronts this fine example of preservation and noted on the odometer is 35,363 original miles! There is no doubt, based on condition, that this car is truly that actual miles. Clean fluffy black carpet and clean tight black headliner finished off the beauty of an interior.
Drivetrain
Based on the previous areas described, you would expect nothing less than just perfection in the engine bay, and it's really is there...Orange/Red GM painted block, intake and valve covers, surrounded by supple hoses, and corrosive and rust free bolt ons throughout. As for the specs it's a numbers matching 350ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor, and an original TH350 3-speed automatic. On the back for the axle is a 10-bolt 2.56 rear.
Undercarriage
The hits just keep on coming and showing some surface rust on the usual suspects. Everything else is all buttoned up with not even a hint of rust, solid frame, floor pans and rockers. A new muffler is on, and power disc brakes are upfront and power drums on back.
Drive-Ability
When one thinks of an Impala you think of a muscle car, however this car is a refreshing retreat from that genre and is a beautiful family cruiser. It did just that with good acceleration, smooth braking, and just a pleasure to drive witheverything functional. A real head turner too, I could have put some serious miles on this car, but then I'd foul the low mileage number!
Excellent, Pristine, Showroom, all capitalized for effect and to show that this car is really a wonderful example from 1970, and shows suburbia lifestyle with family, that you could still look good while living the life. You will not go wrong with this investment, and it is an investment at this condition.
