1958 Chevrolet Other Pickups Description
1958 Chevy Fleetside
Up for auction is a bitchin 1958 Chevy 1/2 ton fleetside big back window short bed. This is one of the most desirable models out of all the early Chevy trucks. Want to be the talk of the show or cruise in? People are all over this truck. It gets tone of attention and people are drawn to it. It has the look everyone wants, without all the issues of a rusty truck.
This truck was just finished and has less than 25 miles since its completion. It has had countless hours spent and lots of money invested making it what you see today. This is not a budget build, thrown together turd with junk yard parts like a good majority of the patina pickups that are on the market. This is a fully restored extremely solid truck with tons of new parts and lots time spent on the details.
Don't let the paint fool you, there is NO rust to be found with this one. I have had a ton of these trucks, and this is by far the most solid and dry example I have ever owned. There is no rust anywhere, and no signs of any rust repair. Beautiful floors, rockers, cab corners, body mounts, etc. They don't come around like this to often. This is a real deal Fleetside, big back window, factory tartan turquoise, short bed truck. This is not a pieced together truck that was drug out of a field. Its not a step side truck with a different bed installed. This is how this truck came.
If you consider what a stock original rust free big window fleetside shortbed brings, before all the upgrades and restoration, you will realize that this is a lot of truck for the money. We did not start with a $5k or $10k truck for this build. We found the best candidate on the market. A good truck to start makes for a better truck in the end.
The inside of the truck is all new and looks awesome! To start, the metal was stripped, prepped, and painted in base coat / clear coat. The seat was re-foamed and recovered in white vinyl with cloth housndtooth inserts. New black carpet and headliner were installed. All new chrome dash knobs and switches. New chrome window cranks and door handles. All the interior hardware was replaced with stainless. A new 1959 impala style steering wheel was painted to match the interior. A new tilt column was shot in gloss black and new chrome hardware installed on the column. New door rubbers, vent window rubbers, window seals etc. Most of the glass is new. New chrome vent knobs were installed. The original cluster wasrestoredand all gauges are working. A new chrome bezel was installed and the gauge face was painted to match. New door strikers, latches, and regulators were installed.
Under the hood you will find a nicely dressed 327. The block was painted body color. A set of original script valve covers were restored and painted to match. The motor runs awesome and has tons of new parts. It has an edelbrock intake with a new holley 4 barrel carb. New alternator, new hoses, new plugs, new wires, etc. The battery and brakes were re located to give the firewall a clean look. The motor starts easy, idles nice, doesn't tick, knock, or run hot. It has good compression and makes good power. It breaths through a set of long tube headers and a brand new dual exhaust system. The truck sounds awesome. A early 60s air cleaner was restored and painted to finish the look under the hood. New hinges were installed. Everything under the hood was stripped and repainted. New hood hinges, new hardware, new rubbers, new clamps, and more.
The transmission is a 350 turbo automatic that shifts nice and smooth. It has new seals and fluid.
The truck has been upgraded with a more modern independent suspension setup from a camaro. It has power steering, new drop spindles, new disc brakes with slotted and drilled rotors, new dual reservoir mastercylinder, all new brake lines, hoses, wheel bearings, all lines, and other associated brake parts.
The bed wood was done by a profesinal wood worker and looks amazing, 8 coats of high gloss polyurethane, sanded flat between each coat. New stainless polished bed strips and hardware was uses. The inside of the bed was painted base clear.
New staggered Wheel Vintique smoothies were painted body color, then ribbed trim rings and scripted caps were added. The wheels were wrapped in new Coker radial wide whites.
The rear end was lowered by using later model leaf springs and flipping the axle above the springs. New socks were installed.
New chrome bumpers, door handles, mirrors, grill, wiper arms, wiper bezels, and headlight bezels were installed.
This is not your typical quicky sand through patina paint. There is a ton of time invested in the paint on this truck. After what little body work the truck needed, it was shot in Dupont base coat. Then many hours of airbrush work were spent to apply the patina. Finally, the truck was shot in a matte clear. All high quality materials were used. The dash, firewall, wheels, inner bed, etc all have gloss clear. The contrast look killer in person. The body on this truck is super nice. Its nice andstraightdown the sides. Very little body filler was used. The bedside are clean, the bottoms of the doors are nice, no signs of the truck ever being hit or repaired. It isapparentthat this truck had an easy life and was well cared for.
There is alot more that I am probably forgetting about the truck, but the pics will tell the story. This is
