Original 283 Malibu Hardtop Radio Delete No Rust Runs Strong
1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Sport Coupe Description
The original title reads: Chevrolet 64-65 SPT-CPE Built Oct 28 1964136375B104610. I had it titled as a 1965 when I changed it over because they said it couldn't be a 1964-1965 any more - pick a year.
Original hardtop car with 283 2bbl, 2 speed powergilde, with manual steering and radio delete. 133K miles, runs strong and smooth.I purchased this car in 1999 from the original owner. Her husband passed on in 1964 and she needed a car and learned to drive. It was bought new in Roanoke, Virgina. I asked her about the radio delete and manual steering. She said she ordered it that way because she didn't want to be distracted and that she wanted to feel the road.
The car is solid with no rust or rot and has not been driven in snow or salt. The rear quarters and body are rock solid. The doors open and shut like new. The chrome is in nice shape with no pitting in the pot metal. The rear bumper is real nice, the front was replaced with a used piece due to some dings and dents, the chrome isn't as nice as the rear. The lady had some incidents with driving it in and out of her small garage as she got older. Look at photos for details.
The drivers side rear quarter has some small dents/wave above the side moulding over wheel well, hard to see in photos. The drivers front fender has some dents in the far front side from rubbing against her garage opening. The passenger side front fender rear bottom was damaged and the rocker was creased due to running along a rock at the end of a driveway a few times, apparently. She had it fixed by a friend of the family sometime in the late 80s and did a quick repaint. They tacked the bottom of the fender to the rocker and filled the dent and crease in. It's been that way for a long time, but needs repaired correctly. There is a ding on the drivers rear corner chrome. It was hit there previously and filled from backing up into something in the garage. The grille has a few bent bars under the emblem. The paint has light spotting on the top from bats when I had it stored for a few years in a warehouse.
The interior is all original, everything works including the cigar lighter, headliner is good with just a little discoloration above the doors. The front seat has a tear down the center, I got it that way and the rear seat top has a sun burnt flap. All the seat foam is nice and firm. It would be no problem replacing the covers or going over them. The carpet and door panels are fine. There is one tiny chip in the center of the windshield. It has 3 of the original T3 headlights left.
When I got the car it had 119K miles, the valve covers were leaking and I added a pair of 327 valve covers and changed the front fender emblems to match. The original 283 pieces are included. I cleaned and painted the front and top of the motor in 2000. It has the original 283 metal removable oil canister filter. The motor has never been out and most everything is numbers matching.I drove it home on bias plys.I added dual exhaust, stock type mufflers and radial tires. I like the looks with the 1964 SS hubcaps, it comes with the originals also, if you don't want the SS caps, I will take off $100. I have a color copy of the front and back of the original title for you also.
I replaced the master cylinder, the front rubber hoses and front wheel cylinders 2 years ago, as well as turning the drums and installed NOS pads for safety. You might want to do the rears. The suspension is firm with no issues. The lady drove the car to a kids camp on weekends carrying coolers and ice for 20+ years so there is rust under the trunk mat from moisture. It looks worse than it is, mostly surface rust with some small holes in the back center and a few pin holes. I was going to respray it, which would make most of it look fine, but for me driving it a couple thousand miles a year, it didn't matter. I have a new rubber trunk seal that is also included with car.
Overall this is a solid used 51 year old car that you can jump in and drive around as is. With a little body work, a paint job and seat covers, it would be an excellent example. Please feel free to ask any questions. It is being sold, as is, per descriptions and photos. The car is located in North Royalton, Ohio 44133.
