1987 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 police package
1987 Chevrolet Caprice Description
Up for auction is a 1987 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1. When in service the car was driven by a captain in Santa Ana P.D., came out of service in 2009 and was purchased at auction by a retired Monrovia P.D. officer. I bought it from him in August 2011, at which point the mileage was 43,738. In summary, the car is a 3 owner, no-rust, California car. As seen in one of the pics, the car was white when purchased and a little rough around the edges, but generally pretty solid. The following is what i did to it.4 new (0929/1104) Bilstein shocksnew hood insulation pad4 new dog dish hub capspowder coated wheels4 new Cooper Cobra GT 'T' rated tires (still at 95%)new window sweeps, trunk & door sealsnew dash padnew front and rear bumper filler panelsnew front turn signal light lensesnew headlights & bezelsnew corner lightsnew grillnew tailpipe & 50 series Flowmaster mufflernew drivers side spotlightnew A/C compressor & dryernew dome light covernew paint job (2012), incl. door jambs, trunk lid, hood etc. color is 1989 GM PPG 3442 slate gray WA7382
Work done recently:transmission service (new filter, gasket, fluid)rebuilt carburetorignition system service (replace pick up coil, ignition module)front & rear brake servicedifferential service
Last year, after discovering coolant discharging from the tail pipe the cylinder heads were removed and a small tear was found in one of the gaskets. At this point the engine was given a valve job, both heads resurfaced and new head gaskets installed. Also, a new heater core was installed, along with new temperature sensor, thermostat and oil filter.
Not so great stuff:A minor 2" ding in the trunk lid, caused by a falling palm tree leaf (!)Corresponding small (approx. 3/4" square) paint chips on each corner of the front bumper filler panel below the corner lightsUpholstery will need attention at some point. It still has plenty of life in it, but has a tear on the driver's seat and the top edge of the back seat is showing wearRubber flooring has a couple of tears, but is generally in very good condition, given the age of the carThe curved, chrome piece of hood trim which runs along the edge of the hood, closest to the windshield, is missingHorn doesn't work.Very small (approx. 1/8") hole in the trunk compartment at the top left inside corner, driver's side
The car has a couple of minor 'creaks & groans" consistent with an almost 30 year old police car, but overall I would rate the car as being in very good condition. As most of you will know, these cars are getting harder and harder to come by, especially a California car in this condition and with this mileage (as i type this, 46,707). I don't really want to sell it, but just have too many cars/projects, and something's got to go.The car drives and shifts well, runs cool, has no known leaks or problems, other than the few minor issues listed above.Split bench front seat, power driver's seat and windows, rarely seen radio delete SEOA/C blows cold, heater blows hot, rear defrost works, all lights, turn signals etc. working. Smogged & registered thru Mar 2017.Oil changes given regularly and all receipts and service records available.
Mileage might be incrementally higher at end of auction.
