The split bumper Camaro - a favorite among Camaro enthusiasts thanks to cleaner and slightly more aggressive looks due to the small bumper sections on either side of the grille. This split bumper Camaro is one that is really hard to divert your eyes from. Awesome color, aggressive stance, aftermarket wheels, and a custom drivetrain are just a few highlights of this clean, mean second gen Camaro.
Many of you who are reading this description know that the split bumper was an option that was available on the 'RS' optioned cars. This car is a Z27 coded, true SS car, so the split bumpers were added at some point in this car's existence. In the spring of 2020 the car was treated to a repaint in the original color of Placer Gold (code 53) with black stripes added. Fit and finish of the exterior is dialed in nicely and the paint shows even color and gloss throughout. Trim, lights, badges, chrome bumpers, and the rear spoiler are in great condition. You may have noticed that a cowl hood has been added which actually blends well with the overall look of the car - it doesn't look too tall. The car has been lowered just a little bit using all new shocks and springs and polished alloy 17" (f) and 18"® wheels by US Mag finish off the aggressive look of the exterior.
Inside the car has been left with the simple factory styling with a few extras tastefully integrated. The first thing that we noticed was the Hurst shifter, then once in the driver's seat, the steering column mounted tach, and auxiliary gauges were quickly noticeable. The interior shows well, but needs just a few things finished to make it complete. The headliner is absent, although the visors, A, B, and C pillars are present.
Much like the awesome paint and body work, a lot of time was spent on the drivetrain of this Camaro. Under the cowl hood is a 327ci V8 that has been bored to 337ci mated to a Super T10 manual transmission. The engine sits in a very clean engine bay and has been treated to a number of performance parts. The most noticeable are the satin black valve covers and satin black air cleaner. Accel plug wires and distributor, Edelbrock intake manifold, headers, and polished alternator are other highlights. The steering components are new, a new clutch spring was recently added, new exhaust from the engine to the tailpipes was installed as well as a rebuilt and balanced driveshaft. A rear axle with 4.10 gears and posi traction sends power to the rear wheels. Take a listen to our video, this car sounds great thanks to a lumpy idle - it's obvious that the engine is no slouch.
This is an aggressive looking Camaro that is ready to perform. Placer Gold is such a great color on this car, which does not fall into the "Granny Gold" category that so many people feel gold cars fall into. Aristophanes is credited with saying, "there is no honest man - not one - that can resist the attraction of gold." We challenge you to resist the attraction of this car, it's a car that is hard to direct your gaze from at any angle. Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our website: Garage Kept Motors.
