1946 Chevrolet Other Pickups Description
I made a video about the truck with footage of it running and pictures. You can view it here:https://youtu.be/-PYeuTS7tgA
This truck was a gift I received from my parents on my 12th birthday. It was purchased from a farmer named Lyle Dunlop fromMossback, Saskatchewan. In 1984 my cousin and I did a partial restoration of the exterior and a local mechanic kept it tuned up and running well.
When we stripped the paint off, we found decals identifying the truck as a City of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan public works vehicle. Unfortunately the decals were not salvageable.
The starting system was converted to 12 volts and it turns over strongly. It still has the original foot pedal starter control. The truck was stored in a barn from 1987 until 2015. In August, 2015, we changed the fluids and spark plugs and flushed the fuel system and it started almost immediately. There is some fuel leaking from the fuel pump andcarburetor because the gaskets have dried out. There is also oil coming from the rear differential for the same reason. The engine does not leak oil, nor does the transmission and the truck drives very well. T
he brakes work and were all rebuilt in 1986, about a year before it went into storage and have very little mileage on them. The vacuum operated windshield wiper motor works, but there is no wiper arm. Heating works and the windshield cranks out for extra airflow.
The back left fender has a dent and the wooden floor of the truck bed needs to be replaced.
The seat was reupholstered in 1983 and is still in great condition. The rest of the interior was cleaned up but not restored.
I intended to finish the restoration myself, but it just doesn't look like I will be in a position to do so anytime soon and 28 years is long enough to know that.
This truck is well on its way to being a real beauty and I hope it goes to someone who will do that and appreciate this classic. It is sold as is, where is, but I can help with shipping arrangements if required.
