Chevelle Convertible SS LS-6 Clone Four speed, nice driver, air conditioning
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Description
This is a clone. I thought I would start with that to make sure there was no understanding. This car was not born an SS or an LS-6. It was born a convertible. Again, this car is a clone.
Ok, with that out of the way, this is a really cool car. It is a driver quality car with fantastic upgrades done much later in its life. The car was born a Malibu Convertible with a power top.
The car was upgraded at some point with the 454 horse LS-6 motor and transmission. I assume the motor did NOT come out of a real LS-6 and as potential buyers, please operate under the same premise. The car has a Muncie four speed transmission. It runs and drives great.
The car has lots of really great options. Again, I'll preface it by saying that I have no idea if the options came on the car originally or were added at a later date. These options include a factory air conditioning setup, power windows, remote outside mirror, power top, power steering and brakes. All of the options were done with correct period part and look totally factory.
The car is equipped with a 454 LS-6 motor and looks very correct. I have no idea if the carburetor is the correct style. The air induction hood is correct and works. The car has a tachometer (again, totally factory correct). and all otherinstruments. Someone spent a ton of money building this car.
The exterior: Paint is good. It is two stage basecoat clearcoat and has a very good shine. There are a few buffing marks and chips in the paint. On the left front fender at the very base by the door are about seven very snall bubbles. There are NO other bubbles on the car. You can see them in the pictures in the gallery. Overall, I'd call the paint a 7.5 to 8.0 out of a 10. The stripes were very well done and clear coated so there is no difference in the finish on the stripes. Again, all really well done. The door fit is very good and the doors open and shut easily. The windows all work well. The top is nice vinyl and goes up and down easily. There is a correct vinyl boot with the top.
The interior is also very nice. The car has bucket seats and a console. The gauges appear original and are in commensurate condition. They look fine but certainly not restored. They all work as well. The dash is excellent. All of the heater and instrument controls work well. The A/C ducts are old but work fine. There is an original Chevelle owners manual with the car. It has a pretty good sounding aftermarket stereo system. It has a sub woofer and wellconcealedspeakers. Nothing in the car was cut up for installation. There are no tears in the seats and no other needs in the interior.
The engine bay is very clean and looks great. Everything looks to me (NOT an LS-6 expert) pretty cool but a serious Chevy guy will probably find a million things not correct given that this car is a clone and not the real thing (I had to mention one more time).
The underside is clean with no rust repair or patches. The trunk is also clean withchippingof the paint my biggestcomplaint.
Overall, this is a get in and drive kind of car ready to be enjoyed. I took it out for a spin last week and the wheels chirped in the first three gears. It runs, looks and drives like the real deal.
Check out what cloned versions have been selling for at places like Barrett Jackson. I've priced this car exceptionally well compared to those results and I think this car is in the same league condition-wise as theirs. It is not a show car but it is a very nice high level driver. If you are looking for a perfect clone, keep looking. It is a clean and fun reliable tribute that will turn heads wherever you go with it and you will get there with no drama or worries.
