This Vette has a totally restored exterior and the original Interior and California trim.
CONDITION SUMMARY
The cosmetic condition of this Vette is truly exceptional. The combination of a totally restored exterior and the unbelievably original interior and California trim make this Corvette the “Survivor” that true collectors / enthusiasts seek.
Several years ago, the car received a complete very high quality repaint in its factory correct color of Riverside Red. The car spent months in the body shop to ensure that the work was of the highest quality and the result is one of the nicest finishes that we have seen on a Corvette. The paint is totally “flat” with no signs of orange peel, checking or defects that detract from the overall appearance and beauty of the car.
The body is laser straight and reflects the hours of preparation to get the fiberglass body in arguably better condition than when the car was new. There is no overspray on any of the trim as a result of the car being totally disassembled in preparation for the repaint.
Of course, some of the rubber trim, interior pieces and other “soft items” were sourced from quality manufacturers. It is very important to note that, unlike many “restorations” this Corvette was done professionally and it shows. True Corvette enthusiasts / aficionados will appreciate the difference and the value of a correct and proper restoration, especially on a rare original like this California Corvette.
Mechanically, the car is very strong and drives exceptionally well. The undercarriage is dry with no major leaks from the engine, rear end or transmission. The cars 300hp engine does not disappoint delivering the kind of performance and torque that is unique to the V8’s of the 1960’s and 1970’s. The owner reports that the entire engine and driveline has been rebuilt to ensure reliability and solid performance. A recent compression and leak down test supports the strength of the car’s engine.
NOS (New Old Stock) or completely rebuilt components were used in the rebuild and an independent inspection (within 100 miles) confirms that all mechanical components remain in excellent condition. The inspection did point to a few wheel cylinders that were beginning to show minor leaking so, as a precaution, the car received all new brake wheel cylinders, brake lines, front brake hoses and turned brake drums.
Additionally, a few of the front suspension components were changed at the mechanics’ recommendation as a result of a few very minor signs of crazing. The car passed the California required safety inspection and has completely functional lighting systems. It is smog exempt as a 1964 model year (any vehicle older than 1975 does not require a smog inspection in California).
Of course, the car received new rubber trim, aluminum stainless trim as needed (either re-done or replaced) and engine fittings, clamps, etc. All areas of the car (engine bay, trunk and interior) have been kept detailed and in clean condition at all times. The Corvette has not been stored for extended periods of time and used occasionally but regularly.
Summer 2015, owner had the hard top professionally restored, added disc brakes to front, aluminum heads, electronic ignition, all new exhaust, new shocks, and the engine was overhauled at that time. Work done by Baker Machine Shop in Logan, UT. Service records can be made available.
