1966 CHEVROLET CORVAIR MONZA CONVERTIBLE
1966 Chevrolet Corvair Description
Some photos show a turquoise instrument panel which was incorrect but done by previous owner. I have just finished a complete tear down of the panel and repainted in correct "wrinkle finish" matte black to include a new glove box and all instrument lighting in blue LED lighting, nice effect at night and should last at least another 50 years. Yes there is an owners manual and a shop manual if desired.
Previous owner spent 9 years and lots of money redoing rear suspension bushings (now nylon instead of rubber), wheel bearings, U-Joints, paint, interior, new steel floor pans (yes convertibles especially have been stored with wet carpeting that rusts the floor pans but now very strong and actually stiffens the convertible's floor which is structural as the bodies are uni-body with sub-frames the way almost all cars are built today. The only thing that is not "stock" is the exterior paint color. Original color was "Artesian Turquoise" but was sort of uninteresting so at the time of repainting a much brighter and more striking GM color of Polynesian Green (Turquoise) was chosen and is very much an improvement. Almost all reproduction parts are from Clark's Corvair Pts. I have spent more than I expect the car to bring and that is not counting hundreds of hours of labor so you can buy this car for less money than it would take you to "build" it even if your grand mother gave it to you.
Over the last few years I have installed new front engine (transmission) mounts, carpet, CV top boot, mats, adjusted the doors and windows, repaired both vent window's friction devices to stay open, had a new convertible top and rear window installed professionally with new top front seal kit. Tuned engine and detailed it, serviced the transmission including flush and drain, replace seals & gaskets, adjusted low band, new vacuum modulator and seal and shift cable.
New radial WSW tires, correct 13" 1966 Chevrolet Corvair wire wheel covers, new reproduction engine compartment insulation and "clips", new oil pan gasket. You can park it on your wife's living room floor (see pics of bottom of car).
Lots and lots of tweaking and driven weekly for errands, approximately 3500 miles the past two years.
Rare power top option works just fine but I don't put top up and down often as I keep it in an air-conditioned/heated humidity controlled shop in my home with a car cover on it most of the time. I have another Corvair and I rotate driving occasionally.
You can drive this car as an everyday car as it is very dependable as I do, but I drive it only on nice days as it has never been in the rain since I've owned it. I admit I am a little anal with it.
This is not a show car and I am not representing it as such. It is however a very nice driver quality car that you can show, drive and appreciate and get a lot of attention while doing it.
This car was built the second week in February, 1966 at the Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti, MI.
Car production number 5658 already by Feb. just at the Willow Run Plt. I understand they built 10,345 Corvair Monza Convertibles during the 1966 model run.
Options include, Monza Deluxe Model Trim, Electric Power Top, Powerglide Automatic transmission, 110 HP Engine, AM push Button Radio, WSW Radial (now) Tires, Special Wire Wheel Covers, RH outside RV Mirror (dual),
I have a clear Texas title in hand (Home for 62 yrs) although I retired 10 years ago and moved to Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. This is where the car is presently located, so come have a little vacation and drive it home! I would encourage you to come see the car if possible before auction ends; and after it is paid for I am happy to assist you in arranging transportation to your home. However I would recommend you drive it home as it has proven to be very reliable all the time I have owned it. The last two Corvairs I drove home 1500 miles each with no problems.
Everything works as it should except heater is disconnected but all there and I installed a correct radio but didn't test it or install a speaker. I am not a big AM radio fan and just installed it to be correct.
At least call me or ask any questions through Ebay and notice I have 100% satisfaction rating and I will be entirely honest with answers to your questions. I have sold many antique and collectable motorcycles, cars and one Bonanza aircraft on Ebay and 100% say they are happy, most never saw the vehicle until it was unloaded at their end.
I am sure I have overlooked some small items in the description but be assured this is a good car and better looking than most cars of today. It is 50 years old and not perfect but has a strong engine/transmission/differential, no rust and drives great.
Two more things I want to add. I plan to advertise my car internationally on the internet and locally on Craig's List, so if I sell it there I reserve the right to cancel this auction.
Also I have listed it with a very low reserve because it is really "FOR SALE" I am not just "fishing" but this is an auction therefore it is not prudent to tell that price. If you are a serious purchaser please do not hesitate to call me to discuss an outright purchase or any legit question. I don't want to trade for anything except cash as I have way too many cars and motorcycles and I am 72 years old and not sure how much longer I can do this. Please NO SCAMMERS, I don't need the practice.
Sorry this description is so long but I wanted to give you as much info as I could since you may be a long way away and unable to see it personally. God bless you.
