1968 Chevrolet C10 Custom Short Wide
Corvette LS1 and 460LE transmission
Vintage Air Conditioning
This has been a five-year project to build great looking hot rod truck. Like many projects this started as a late night eBay purchase. After getting the truck and driving it for a few weeks, I decided I did not want a stock C10, but a truck with modern running gear and air conditioning. But most importantly it had to have lots of chassis, suspension, and brake upgrades. I wanted a truck that was a bit of a “sleeper” in appearance, but with some tasteful upgrades. I sent the truck to a performance shop that specializes in trucks and street rods. It was stripped to bare frame to inspect and start with a clean slate. After pouring over lots of catalogs and google’ing C10 sites, I developed a plan for the truck and started ordering parts. I got a set of custom drop spindles and lower control arms, and new sway bar. I got a Early Classic Center drop center that lower the cross member and stiffens the frame. In the rear Porter Built Frame C notch, rear panard. I wanted to keep the traditional suspension set up compared to airbags so that it would have more of a authentic look to it. Everything is powder coated and done by professional so it is done right and should last forever. I even had the truck arms machined so the e- brake cable would run through it and not hang below the chassis. The other detail I wanted was the side exit exhaust. I had the exhaust routed so that it went down the inside of the frame and out the side of the bed. The exhaust outlets are all-stainless and look really cool. It has a 12 bolt Posi-rear end that was rebuilt and fully set up. Brand new driveline was custom built for the truck as well. It has 4 wheel disc brakes with power assist that is all new including all new lines. Now for the best part… I sourced a 2000 Corvette LS1 complete. I had it mated to a fully rebuilt 460LE automatic transmission. A custom wire harness was built for it so that I could route the ECU and other electronics up inside the cab and look very clean. Custom Alloy radiator and fan set up was built for it, so there is zero cooling issues. I bought a Vintage AC system and had it adapted to the Corvette AC compressor, along with custom lines and AC condenser. It runs really strong and smooth with no issues. The body was in really good shape when I got it, with pretty fresh paint. Only an little touch up has been done to it from when I got the truck. I replaced almost every piece of chrome trim, bumpers, emblems, and grill in the truck. I was lucky enough to find a original set of American Racing wheels for it to complete the vintage look. The car has a great sound, but not too loud. The ride quality is great, no harshness. The brakes are as good as any modern truck really. Everything was don top notch on this build, and well designed parts. I also replaced the door gaskets, window felts, carpet and had the seat recovered. The windshield and gasket is new. The door open and close easy and tight. I relocated the fuel tank to the rear frame rail with a hidden fuel fill in bed. I just put in a Kenwood CD player and new speakers. The truck is the right one for someone that want Vintage but Modern performance. I am happy to answer any questions.
