1963 Chevrolet Impala SS Impala Description

Rare and Incredible 1963

Impala SS 2 Door Convertible with New 350 GM Crate Engine, Powerglide Transmission, Bucket Seats and Console

I purchased this car from one of my friends in Atlanta and it has been garage kept for the 8 years he owned the car. I bought the car thinking I would keep it and I hate to get rid of it, but I need to make room in my shop for the other projects I have in work.

This cool 1963 SS Impala was originally Autumn Gold with a Fawn interior, Fawn Convertible top, console with floor shifter, bucket seats, tilt wheel, power steering and deluxe interior. The original power plant was a 327cu in motor backed up with a 2 speed Powerglide transmission.

As you can see in the photos, the car is now a brilliant Red exterior with a beautiful new white top and new white interior. The paint is almost perfect and looks more brilliant in person than it does in the photos. The paint is a 2 stage base clear polyurethane system.

The entire white custom interior and convertible top are new. The carpet is also new and is a 80/20 loop pile in a rich red color that accents the red dash, red steering wheel and red tilt steering column. The owner paid over $4,500 for the new custom interior and I have all the bills and paperwork.

It appears that all sheet metal is original and there is no rust problems in the car. The car is laser straight, this can be seen by looking at the photos of all sides, front and rear. The body and undercarriage are free of rust, noting there is some very slight normal surface rust on some areas of the undercarriage.

My friend replaced the original 327 engine with a new 350 GM crate engine. ($4,800 installed) The new GM crate engine came with a 50,000 mile GM warrantee and it only has 4200 miles on it since installation. I have all the paperwork and bills where he paid for the engine and installation, new Carb, new intake, new starter, new HEI ignition, water pump and fuel pump. The new 350 engine starts with just a touch of the key cold or hot and it idles and runs smooth at any speed.

With the addition of the new engine, Vintage Air Gen 4 and heat and air conditioning was installed.

The transmission is the original 2 speed power glide that has been rebuilt and with the original floor shifter and console. The rear end is the stock rear end with a nice high end gear.

The car rides on a set of 17" X 9" American racing billet wheels and 235/45 ZR 17 . 94 W tires. The car has been lowered 3" however it is not so low that is drags, it is just low enough to produce and cool look and a smooth ride, the car has a beautiful stance.

All of the glass is in excellent condition, I am not sure if it was replaced or this is the original glass. All of the trim and chrome on the car is new and in excellent condition.

When I received the car the brakes were good but the car had set in the garage and had not been driven much in the past three years. All of the components were fairly new but the fluid had set in the lines and cylinders and there was some gummed up cylinders that worked sluggishly. I had all new flex lines, wheel cylinders, brake shoes, a new master cylinder installed and all lines blown out, cleaned and all new fluid added. The brakes are perfect now and will stop you on a dime.

I also had the car buffed and waxed along with having all carpets and interior cleaned, and a complete detail under the hood. All of the fluids in the engine and transmission were changed and a lube job performed.

The trunk is the original type factorypaint that is gray colorThe car comes with a jack, spare tire and lug wrench, plus all four original type wheels, tires and hub caps are included with the car.

This car runs strong and drives and handles great. I picked the car up in Atlanta GA when I purchased it and dove it back to Vidalia GA (230 miles) on the interstates driving 80 to 85 miles per hour. The car burnt a little less than a 1/2 of a tank of gas and the cooling system kept the car at a perfect 180 degrees. Even when cruising the streets in the middle of a hot South Georgia summer day the car runs cool. All this car needs is a good home and a cool driver to cruise it anywhere.

All lights and gauges including the speedometer work.

The car has all of these options:
