1968 Chevrolet Camaro Description

If you're into Pro-Touring and want an early Camaro that gets everything right, this 1968 Chevy Camaro should do the trick. Big engine, big brakes, lots of suspension, and full of creature comforts, this is a virtual template for every Pro-Touring car that's been built since the dawn of the breed back in the '90s. This is one car that does everything well. The bright Viper Red paint is the first clue that this car has some serious firepower under the hood; you don't paint a car like this unless you can back it up. It's beautifully done, with a spectacular shine that only comes from a lot of time and money being invested in the final result. They kept it pretty clean, adding a cowl induction hood but eschewing the usual stripes, making this Camaro look purposeful and aggressive, but not over-done. No emblems or badges, because the point wasn't to make yet another SS clone, but rather a Camaro that's been pared down to the bare essence, and in that regard it's a smashing success. The early car's curves are gorgeous when you actually stop to look at it, and with just a chin spoiler and a ducktail spoiler on the trunk, it has a purposeful look that's all about performance. Add in the road race stance and you have a Camaro that gets attention for all the right reasons.Pro-Touring is all about creature comforts without sacrificing performance, so the interior got a substantial makeover based around a pair of supportive ProCar bucket seats. With the pleated upholstery, they're a natural fit in the Camaro's passenger compartment and are a lot more functional than the slippery original chairs. A custom center console houses a trick shifter for the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, as well as the Alpine AM/FM/CD/iPod head unit, all in a very OEM-looking package. There are Infinity 6x9 speakers on the rear package shelf and 5-inch units in the kick panels. The A/C is ice cold, which is always nice in a car designed to travel great distances in a hurry, and there's a tilt steering column with a billet wheel on top, which looks very purposeful. A full complement of Auto Meter gauges monitor the engine and even the pedals got a makeover with aluminum plates to add a racy look. Seat belts with shoulder harnesses are there for safety and the rest of the audio system lives in the trunk, including a pair of JL Audio 12-inch subwoofers in a custom enclosure.Pro-Touring is about power, but a big block would weigh too much, so this Camaro sports a 383 cubic inch stroker motor instead. Making big block power in a small block package, it also loves to rev. There's a 4-barrel carburetor up top to ensure it gets enough to breathe and it's beautifully finished with Edelbrock valve covers and all the wiring and plumbing neatly hidden out of sight. There's a very trick billet accessory drive up front, and both power steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes are included. The front suspension is augmented with tubular A-arms while out back you get a trailing arm setup with coil-overs and a 10-bolt rear end. Long tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers with turn-downs ahead of the rear axle accentuate the pro-touring vibe with an awesome soundtrack, and it sits on a set of 2-piece Boze wheels with 235/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear BFGoodrich G-Force Sport radials.Beautifully built, fully functional, and very fast, this nicely documented and ultra-clean F-body is ready to enjoy at just about any level.
