RUNS AND DRIVES-NEEDS FULL RESTORATION
1968 Chrysler Newport Description
I don't know why I can't change the listing, but this is obviously a 300! If you like your Mopars lean and mean, this isyour kind of car. Somewhere along the way, correct Chrysler A/C was added...according to the data plate the only option was an AM radio! It is NOT a TNT engine car, just the standard 440 with Carter WFB. It would seem the original buyer, who was, I was told, a Coast Guard officer, wanted a bare-bones convertible 300. It is an original BB-1 Formal Black car with the pearl white interior. The current interior is something non-original that the last owner had made. The original radio is long gone. The top is toast, but the power mechanism works OK. I have ownedthis carforalmost 13 years. The rear bumper is peeling from the cheap re-chrome, and the front bumper is all but destroyed from rust. I am including with the sale a nice '67 bumper that is the same except for the fact that there are no small square holes on the sides for the '68 marker lights. The hideaway lights do not work but can be repaired or just pushed down at night. Here are some good things...the gas tankwas boiled and sealed and has a new sending unit which works fine. There are 3 new tires (and 1 good used) on the car; the spare is bad but has a good rim. The jack is complete with lug wrench... the brakes were gone through 2 years ago and work fine (stock drum units). The air was converted to 134a but currently has problems- it blows hot.It has a Pertronix ignition and has a separate starter button that I put in. The car was built on September 25th, 1967, making it a very early '68 and probably an original "silver tail" car. It does start and drive, but I wouldstrongly suggest trailering it home since I have not taken it on anydrives more than a couple miles in the last year and it has developed a transmission leak. The cowl vent was removed for some wiper area rust repair and is in the trunk. I am includinga new special clip for the wiperlinkage. The body has the usual heavy rust in all the usual places; top well, top mechanis, fenders, floors, trunk drip rail, (you get the picture) . This car is a major project for an experienced person. It requires a full restoration. What you see is what you get unless otherwise indicated.I am sure I forgot something so please ask any questions before bidding. Check out my feedback. Buyer is responsible for pick-up/shipping. Thanks for looking at my listing, and, by the way, this is a no reserve auction-Top Bid wins! I do not want to sell it, but I have lost my storage and it needs to find a new home.
