1958 Chrysler 300D Description
The 1958 Chrysler 300D Convertible is a very special and rare car indeed. Only 618 hardtops and 191 convertibles were ever produced and only 55 convertibles are known to still exist today. The 1958 model year was the last year with the famous Hemi FirePower engine. The engine was an impressive 392 cubic inches (6.4 L) and tuned to an even more impressive 380 hp. A Chrysler 300D was driven to 156 mph (252 km/h) at the Bonneville Salt Flat that same year. The 300D was the fastest and most powerful car from the 1950's and represents the pinnacle of what automakers could accomplish.
This particular car has a unique history. It was the automotive star in the movie "The Quiz Show" directed by Robert Redford. This is documented with photos. It was previously owned by Richard L. Carpenter from the band "The Carpenters" and the car has been featured in Motor Trend Magazine on a couple of occasions.
The car is in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition. It was restored some 20 years ago but has barely been driven since. The restoration was done with great respect to originality, so everything on the car is to original specification - stickers, tires, tools etc. The mileage reads only 30,634 which is believed to be actual. The car drives excellently with the 380 hp Hemi Power ready whenever you want! This is truly the pre-cursor to the muscle cars of the 1960's.
