All total there were 14,121 Imperials built for the 1963 model year. This is 1 of 6960 Crown 4dr Hardtops. This Imperial is equipped with nearly every option available. I have not checked but it may also be equipped with the Sure Grip rearend.
This car is a driver. She runs and drives well. Engine doesn't smoke or make noise. Has new plugs, wires, etc. Has a new dual exhaust installed front to back. The transmission pulls strong and shifts smooth. Doesn't appear to be any leaks. The power steering works well. The tires are new and were balanced. The brake booster was professionally rebuilt by Power Brake Booster Exchange in Portland, Oregon and new master cylinder installed. The car stops really well! I have a complete brake kit for the car. (Shoes, wheel cylinders, hoses, spring hardware, bearings, seals, etc.) It stopped so well I never bothered replacing the brakes. But everything needed tocompletelyredo the brakes is in the trunk. Car seems to cool well and no overheating issues have been noted. I installed new adjustable air shocks in the back.
The body of the car is extremely solid. She was bought new in California. No rust out anywhere. Only some minor dings here and there but nothing serious. The paint is presentable. Some normal wear as with any car this old. Some call it "patina." Doesn't appear to be any filler on this car. The floors and trunk floor are nice. I painted the interior floors with POR 15 paint.
The interior is all original and the leather is showing age. It is dry with some splits. The headliner has come unstitched in a few places and sewn back together. The door panels show wear. The dash pad is still soft and nearly flawless. I removed the carpet as it was in poor shape. The seats are still pretty comfortable. The interior is quite big! Room for all your friends!
The front power windows roll up and down. I had to free up the motors as they had gotten stuck from lack of use. The back windows were operational but the motors seem to be stuck after not being used in a while. She will need some electrical troubleshooting to get all the power accessories back in operating condition. I believe one of the breakers is bad. The power trunk lock and other power options work if jumpers are used. The A/C compressor is stuck. The gauges in the cluster need replacing and a good complete cluster pulled from another car is included. The sill plates are in the trunk with other extra parts. Two really nice front door panels are also included.
I drove the car on a few trips. From Williams to San Francisco a couple times. And to Chico. All around town and other short trips. She does drive really well. All in all shes a decent driver that can be driven as is needing only minor work. She's a good candidate for restoration or maybe you want a little wear and tear?? Either way she'll fit the bill!
I have a clear Oregon title for the car.
