1951 Citroën AX Description

As can be seen in the 2nd and 3rd last photographs, this car started life as a black1951 Citroen Traction Avant, FWD, Model 11B, hardtop. The body has not changed much - except for the fact that it is now a convertible, which Citroen never offered in this model. The new paint color, and some very subtle body changes, give this car a whole new appearance - I've had people refer to it as everything from a Packard to an early Ford........... I know it is my car, and I am trying to sell it, but in person it truly is a stunning car in this color.

PROVENANCE: I've owned this car from the summer of 2011. The previous owner purchased it from the builder in 2003. That is about when the car was completed. As I understand it, the build took just about 2 years, during which both the engine and the transmission were rebuilt by the builder, and a whole bunch of new parts were added. In the time I've had the car I haven't really done all that muchto it - except routine maintenance,a battery replacementin2012, anda battery cut off switch in 2015. The biggest thing I had done washavingthe rack and pinion steering rack replaced with a power rack, also in 2015.

WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE: In a nutshell, this car started life as a FWD hardtop. It is nowa RWD convertible, with complete Toyota Supra running gear (engine, transmission, rear end, brakes, etc). Featuring AC, automatic, cassette player, power steering, disc brakes, etc., etc).

DRIVEABILITY: The car really runs out well,,,,,,,,,,,with the power steering and automatic it is an easy car to drive, and it sounds GREAT. If you grew up in the 1950s like I did, you will LOVE the sound of the exhaust. It is kind of quiet at running speed, but on acceleration, if you get on it a bit, it has a truly WONDERFUL sound.......... I've probably had 25 or so different cars in the past 20 years - hot rods, sports cars, weird foreign cars - and without a doubt, this car has the best sounding exhaust of any of them!

APPEARANCE: As important as how the car runs is, a whole lot of people are more focused on the appearance of a car. This car, because of a combination of its lines, and this amazing paint color, and contrasting top and interior, is really quite stunning. The pictures simply do not do the color any justice. The color could loosely be described as gold, but it is one of those modern colors that, depending on the light, changes color. Changes from a light gold, to a tan, to a grayish gold,,,,,,,,,,, really nice and draws everyones attention. You will be pleased! (Especially with the complimentary tan color of the top and interior).

NOTE: Again, the coloring in the pictures isn't quite right - but the first picture, and especially the second picture (of the rear of the car), do the best job of showing the actual color.............. if you have more questions in this area please let me know and I can trying taking some better pictures for you.

WHY CARBS? Why didn't the builder just keep the fuel injection. Well, it has to do with cosmetics as much as anything - the builder wanted to be able to open the hood and have a "Jaguar look to the engine", like the original E-types- so he built his own intake manifold and linkage and installed a pair of SU looking carbs - Hitachi carbs from a 240Z, with dual chokes!

UNDERSIDE: You will note I have not provided any pictures of the underside, for a couple reasons - I ran out of space for pictures; the car sits really low and at 74 years old I just didn't feel like crawling under there; plus, I ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE THIS CARDOES NOT HAVE ANY RUST ISSUES!!!! It has been up on a lift at my mechanics a number of times (should have taken pictures) and he and I have inspected it, and I can say unequivocallythatrust IS NOT AN ISSUE AT ALL. That said, if you want pictures of the underside please let me know and I will go out to the garage, crawl under it,and take some for you.............

ISSUES: One that I know of for sure - there is a small separation in one of the seams of the convertible top (see the last picture). Also, I do believe there may be a drain on the battery - that is why I installed the cut off switch some years ago. It hasn't been enough of an issue for me to have my mechanic determine for sure if there is a problem, or if I just left something turned on once. The cut-off switch is inside the car.

CONDITION: BODY: Very, verygood condition. The car does not get driven much, and has not been on any really long trips since I have had it, so it is relatively free of dings, dents, etc. from highway driving. That said, it is a 70 year old car body, so you should expect it to have a nick or two - nothing excessive or that looks really bad, or even is particularly noticeable. RUST: Again, you should NOT expect rust - as I said above, this car simply does not have any rust issues! INTERIOR: Also very good - no tears, stains, that sort of thing. TOP: I mentioned the one seam separation and provided a photo of it. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Very Good also. CHROME: Very Good condition.

FOLKS - THIS IS A VERY, VERY NICE CAR, THAT PRESENTS REALLY WELL, AND RUNS OUT STRONG - AND SOUNDS GREAT!

Comes with various maintenance records and a couple manuals.

Please email if you would like to inspect the car in person, or have an inspection done.

Buy with confidence !!!

Note my100% eBay feedback rating!!!

WARRANTY: As with all the other resto rods, customs, hot rodson ebay, this car is sold as is, where is, no warranty is expressed or implied........ If you have any doubts or concerns about the car, or about me,then please come inspect it, or have it inspected. I have a simple motto I live by - "Life is too short to mess with people". Idon't misrepresent my items - again, see my feedback rating. It is a very nice car butbecause of its age, you should have some expectations of normal/trypical wear, dings, etc. All sales are final.

Please let me know if you have any questions........... Thanks, Ray
