1971 Datsun Z-Series Description

I bought this '71 240Z in 1998. It was my daily driver for a decade. Ithad a reconditioned title when I bought it. A few years ago it was struck by another car from the front, while parked on the side of my house. The impactwrinkled the hood and passenger side fender. It also pushed the radiator core support back just enough so that the fan blades were scraping the radiator. I shaved down the edges of the plastic fan blades a bit so the fan would turn freely. The impact also caused a leak in the radiator. I do have a new aftermarket radiator that comes with the car. But the core support for theradiator will need to be repositioned in order to installthe new radiator. I've driven this Z around my neighborhood since the accident and it seemed to track fine. But it hasn't started since Sept, probably due to old gas in the line. There is a leak in the gas tankwhich only becomes apparent when the tank is topped off. I would suggest dropping the gas tank, flushing, replacingthe fuel hoses, and running fresh gas through to get it started. There's some rust in the usual places, a rocker panel and in the floor pans. The passenger side floor pan has a slightly larger than a quarter-sized hole, which you can see in the photo. The white stripes are from double-sided tape which I was using to keep the original carpets in place. The original jute dampening material is long gone. The wheel well for the spare tire looks rusty but has no holes. The windshield wipers aren't presently working, which could be just a fuse. The passenger side door needs some hardware to latch properly. Those are the issues that a new owner would have to address in order to enjoy driving this car on the street. Considering the state of some of the other "project" cars I've seen listed, I'd say this Z is at a close enough starting point to be a reachable goal for the vintage Datsun enthusiast with access to a body shop, some used parts, and several weekendsworth of time to devote.
