1971 Dodge Charger Hardtop Description
OPENING BID AMOUNT REDUCED!
For your consideration I've got a 1971 Dodge Charger. I’ve had this car since May of 2010. I have tons of pictures of it since then for documentation if you like. It’s had thousands of dollars put into it, and I really do enjoy it, but I got other cars I’d like to try out and don’t have the money for a stable of them.
It is a beast, and a head turner, no doubt. Car runs great, but I’d plan on trailering it to it’s new home because of the low gearing. The noise can be a bit much on highway drives over 30 miles. If you can’t pick up the car yourself, I will help organize shipping with transporter of your choice.
Aside from normal maintenance, the following is my attempt to recap the work that has been done to the car:
-In 2011 the motor and transmission were rebuilt, and torsion bar seals, control arm bushings, wheel seals, tie rod ends, master cylinder & brake pads were replaced, as was the alternator and voltage regulator. Car driven approximately 10K miles since this time.
-Air shocks installed on rear end 2012
-New coil, distributor, plugs, plug wires, etc. & tires in 2012
-Power steering pump replaced in 2013.
-New exhaust manifold gaskets in 2015.
-Body work completed last year (August 2016). New body panels installed where needed, not Bondo. Bondo was used for skimming and small imperfections. Only exterior panels were done - no inner fender, firewall, etc. Trunk has a small sheet patch in corner, but didn't get a new panel. Have photographic documentation of the work.
-Paint redone in original color, and is bright and looks great going down the road, but is by no means a show car job. I’d give it about a 6.5 out of 10. Has imperfections and orange peel. Could use a wet sand from a guy with more skill than myself. Except small sheet metal trunk patch in driver corner, underside of car is solid and has been coated. Always garaged. Don't even wash it with water - just wipe down with spray cleaner.
-Have a new flat black hood bulge stripe decal that will be included if you want to install.
-New AR, flat black, rims in 2016
-Car was aligned with new pitman and idler arm last week (4/23/17), have documentation available of the camber, caster, toe, steer, thrust, etc.
-New belts & water pump pulley installed 4/30/17 - no squeals or slipping
-New coolant temperature sensor, fuel neck gasket, and fuel sending unit installed this week to get the gauges in order.
Car info and specs:-440 motor, originally a 318 out of the factory at Lynch Rd., MI-Holley 4150 double pumper carb-727 3-speed automatic transmission-B&M shifter on the floor, previously on the column-All interior and exterior lights and turn signals are functional-Wipers work but I don't drive it in rain-Believe the rear end is geared 4:10 - will jack up and verify
Known issues that may need attention - I've tried to include pics that show the cosmetic ones...-Driver side of trunk has a patch, the rest is solid and has been coated-Chrome bumpers have some chips that have been touched up with chrome paint-Trunk lid has some surface rust on under side corner-Inner fender panels have rust at edges and heavy coating in wheel well area-Firewall has small area of rust to the right of master cylinder where hoodlatch cable passes through-Steering box has a leak - did an adjustment on 4/27/17, and have it working responsively without play, but it will need attention.-Very small transmission fluid leak at shifter seal. Not noticable on stick, but have seen on garage floor.-Radio disconnected and speakers removed-Bench seat has tears-Carpet sun bleached-Has dash cap with one crack-Interior door panels have faux chrome chipping and a few broken fasteners-Hide away lights don’t have motor, I raise them manually.-Window and trunk seals need replaced-Heater core leaks and has been bypassed-Speedometer reads inaccurate-Little cold natured, has manual choke that I never use.
I’m trying to be as thorough as possible with my info because I’ve bought cars off the internet and know it can be stressful when you can't see every inch of a car for yourself, and I've also seen a lot of these cars on eBay with similar issues going unmentioned - & they usually end up re-listed.
If you have any questions or need a specific area photographed etc., let me know. If you'd like to meet locally to inspect and drive the car - just send me a message and we can set it up.
