Shown here is a rarely offered 1971 Dodge Charger R/T HEMI. If you are a fan, you know that these are the rarest hardtop HEMI powered beasts that ever roamed North America. Only about 33 automatic HEMI Chargers were produced in 1971. This one has all the right equipment, including the all-important N96 Ram Charger Hood, slick top, and Rally Gauge, and full-color two tone B5-B7 Jamaica Blue Console Bucket Interior.
Overall, the car is in solid show driver quality condition. Paint, Body, Interior, and Mechanicals are in good condition. Engine bay shows normal wear consistent with a restored car that has subsequently been driven and enjoyed on a limited basis. Same is the case for the undercarriage, it is solid and clean, only needing a cosmetic refresh if your wish is to make this particular car a trailer queen.
The entire drivetrain package: 426 HEMI, 727 Torque Flight Transmission, and 8 ¾ Sure-Grip loaded with 3.23:1 gears, is optimally suited for highway cruising and top speed domination. If you are looking for factory original HEMI Charger that you can drive and enjoy, or dress up and show- this is the perfect candidate. We have gotten an estimate from a renowned Mopar restorer to refresh the undercarriage and engine bay should you want this car for “show” more than “go”, that is available upon request.
EXTERIOR
Remarkably, the inspector notes that this Charger retains all of its original body panels. The paint is a very good condition, showing no significant mars in the finish or application defects in the paint. This is a factory GB5, Bright Blue Metallic car, not to be confused with 1970 “B5” Blue which is not as rich in tone as GB5. This is a factory slick top, V68 stripe delete car. The longitudinal tape stripe was added- because, why not?! The factory correct rear wing is also added. The N96 Ram Charger Hood is factory correct and original to the car.
INTERIOR
The cabin is fit for a The King. Two tone B5/B7 Blue, Rally Woodgrain Dash, Bucket Seats, C16 Console, B51 Power Brakes, J41 Pedal Dress Up, A04 Radio Group- which also includes variable speed wipers, power steering, remote left mirror, and the Music Master Radio of course! R31 Rear Seat Speakers make certain the rear passengers also remain entertained. The interior is excellent condition, no significant blemishes or flaws were noted.
ENGINE BAY
The engine bay presents as factory in appearance. According the visual inspection, the casting dates, assembly dates and VIN stamps on the engine block and transmission are intact and consistent with known original factory exemplars. The conclusion, this car retains its original, numbers matching powertrain. The exhaust manifolds, Alternator, and Water pump Housing are appropriate for a HEMI application, but do not display the correct casting code for the car. The Group 27 Battery and alternator are aftermarket. The engine assembly DOES retain the correctly coded intake, Carter AFB Carbs, Radiator, fan shroud, 7 blade Fan, breather, etc.
CHASSIS
The floor pans are clean, solid, and original. The undercarriage is finished in gray primer with body color overspray, and benefit from a good detail. Both sets of torque boxes are in place with no issues cited. The pinion snubber plate, also in place with no issues. The inspector also cites the same for the fuel lines, radiator core support, from the rear frame extensions, cowl, firewall, etc. I didn’t have access to a lift, so I don’t have great undercarriage photos. I’ll provide what I have upon request.
