This is a beautiful, very rare, ‘75 Dodge Dart Sport Hang 10.
The car runs and drives beautifully.
This car was purchased in Florida from a classic car dealer in 2004. After driving the car, we realized the '75 slant-6 was very underpowered. We contacted a gentleman who was involved in racing the old slant-6 cars. He converted the engine by changing out the head (early 60's higher compression), replacing the manifold and carb with a 2-bbl set-up off a late 70's Aspen (Dodge Super-Six), installed a true exhaust header, and a much larger exhaust system. It sounds and looks stock but runs far better. It is now a well performing car and is fun to drive!!
The only other variations from complete factory is the background of the instrument cluster is white, not black; and the surfboard rear-view mirror. (We have the original …we couldn’t resist putting this one on.)
We have the original parts other than the exhaust system.
The interior of the car is near perfect. The pictures show it well.
The exterior is also very nice, with just a very few minor blemishes.
The front bumper has about a 1" square defect in the chrome, shown in pictures.
There is a scratch in the corner of the rear bumper.
There are a few little marks and dings but none that stand out.
The vinyl roof is near perfect.
We have driven it many miles to several different car shows and it performs flawlessly.
We recently drove it to the “Turkey Run” in Daytona Beach, which is over 400 miles, and it ran perfect.
After purchasing it in Florida, we had it transported to Minnesota, where it has been garaged for several years. We just transported it back to Florida this fall.
We drove the car to the Iola Car Show in central Wisconsin a few years ago, and the Editorial Director was so impressed he did an article on our “Hang 10” on their website and in their "Old Cars Weekly" magazine. If you Google “1975 Dodge Dart Hang 10”, the article will still pop-up….
This is the headline: Car of the Week: 1974 Dodge ‘Hang 10’ Dart By: bearnest | November 28, 2011 (they did make an error and call it a ’74.)
The car has won many trophies over the years as it is very unique.
The heater, lights, turn indicators, etc all work as they should.... but the air conditioning may need recharging …it has been converted to 134.
We have the original Owners Manual and a large Dealer Binder that describes the various features and options on a Dodge Dart.
The surf board was in the car when we purchased it, and we have always left it there to show off the unique (at the time) fold down rear seat. It is included.
The trunk interior is very nice.
The car really needs to be seen ...it's not perfect, but it is very nice!!
It is available for inspection at any time in Punta Gorda, Florida. We’d be happy to pick you up at the Punta Gorda (PGD) or Ft Myers (RSW) airport.
For those who are not familiar with the car, the “Hang 10” was a special edition decor package that was limited to the latter half of 1974 and 1975 only. The surfer motif extended through the interior with some of the wildest paint and upholstery available in a production car ... and more than the usual amount of "orange" (we call it red) paint on the dash and console. Total production is estimated at less than 800 ... making this one of the rarest and most seldom seen Dart models!
The white vinyl seats and door panels were inset with panels of red, white and navy striped Sunbrella like fabric ...designed to stand up to those sandy, wet surfer bodies. The red shag carpet extends into the fold down rear panel. The rear bench seat folds down to stow that long surf board. The special surfer decals accentuate the front hood and side panels. (Ironically, the Dodge advertising refers to the carpet as orange shag and the striped panels as orange and black striped, but they are truly more red, just as the pictures show.)
