Up for sale is a 1977 Dodge w100 Macho. She has a Mopar 440 Big Block, Manual NP435 Transmission, NP203 full time 4x4 transfer case. She has her original paint...the black on the fenders is not original, but the original color is “visable” underneath.
Here is some info on the truck:
I’ve been ‘Darlene’s’ caretaker since March of 2017. I drove 1500 miles when a buddy of mine told me it was for sale. I picked her up from the second owner who had inherited this truck from his brother who passed away.
The truck became a family project to restore her...hence the front fenders and a decent engine rebuild attempt about 9 years ago. Then, as fate would have it, they had family issues that made it financially impossible to finish her as they wanted. The truck would get driven every week to the grocery store...and they hoped one day to get her built. Sadly that never happened.
When I got the call that she was available for me to come see; the current owner told me he was selling so his son (who just turned 18) had planned on going pro for motocross. He had told his son he couldn’t afford it unless he sold the Truck. Two months went by, and the kid came to his Dad, and asked him to sell the truck; in pursuit of his dream.
The first owner was the eldest brother of the second owner. He purchased it new from the Dealer in Aberdeen Washington...a little hill town outside of Seattle; where Kurt Cobain grew up. It was the color he wanted, the interior he wanted, and it was a manual trans...he was in love. He worked for the Military (Navy) DOJ and it still had the original military base stickers on the truck window & in the glove box. Sadly, the original owner passed from Cancer...and his baby ‘Darlene’ went to his youngest brother...who idolized him.
After he drove the truck for a year he decided he wanted to drop a big block into her. Not just any big block 440...but it’s dated 11-14-1969 (1970 model year motor) with 906 heads. I sent the vin info over to a friend of mine that told me it’s from a 1970 Cuda (non-hp)...this is not verified. The story goes that someone crashed the Cuda and the Dodge dealership in Aberdeen called the original owner to let him know they could do the engine swap with this donor. She has been with this same drivetrain since 1978.
What’s been done to her since I’ve had her:
New Battery
Installed pertronix ignitor kit (no more points)
MSD 2 coil
Installed better dash bezel in her
Took the stereo out (was just hanging there)
What it needs:
Frame off resto
Bed panels above the wheel wells
Rocker panels
Other rust repairs
Full motor, trans, & t-case rebuild...
I would even do the axles if it was staying with me.
Btw...she runs and drives great!!!! Starts right up and gives me ZERO ISSUES!
Feel free to ask me any questions. I’m very happy to send additional pictures, video, & discuss “Darlene.”
