1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE
Original 383 auto car but not numbers matching. Engine and trans out of 1970 C body
Engine rebuilt and I do not know the specs of the rebuild. Runs strong and clean
Car is originally B5 blue with white top and white side stripes verified have the fender tag. I have not looked for a build sheet. The car should have a blue cloth interior. The interior was swapped to black and shows well. Car is originally a R22 AM 8 track with the 5 speakers option. Currently has AM/FM Thumbwheel in it and it is not working. I have not pulled it to find out why. I did pick up an original AM 8 track for it.
It has been repainted at some point in its life. The rear valance is fiberglass that was riveted on to the original steel valance and smoothed with filler. I have a replacement valance from AMD new in the box. It was undercoated so the underside is very clean and nice. Vinyl top has been replaced.
I put new rallye wheels/rings/caps on it. Tires are 225 60 15
I found an NOS rear panel and that is now on the car.
I replaced the rear shocks with stock style shocks and replaced the rear springs with ESPO 1” over stock springs. I have not done anything to the front suspension. Front and rear sway bars are in place.
I replaced the entire exhaust system last August with an Accurate LTD system including the upgraded magnum mufflers for a better tone. Has the correct 1970 HP manifolds and the heat riser still works on them.
Under the hood, I replaced the air cleaner and valve covers. I added all the correct wire looms and heat shields. I replaced the engine wiring harness and the spark plug wires. I put on the correct A/C alternator brackets and belts. I replaced the washer bottle and hoses so that it works now. I found the hard to find correct A/C hoses and they are now installed. Has new A/C condenser. I installed a new heater valve and new heater hoses. Carb has been replaced. Oil pressure sending unit is replaced. New battery tray installed.
The interior is very clean and presentable. It is a later year style (looks 72 to me). It has a dash cap over the dash pad which I have not pulled off. I did add the correct shoulder belts and clips which were missing. I also replaced the overhead console light assembly with the correct one. All of the gauges work with the exception of the temp gauge. It is not hooked up as someone removed the sending unit and plugged the hole. I picked up another water pump housing to fix it. The shifter is the incorrect 71 up style. I picked up a correct ’70 shifter to replace it. I also replaced the turn signal switch with the current aftermarket replacement piece. Wiper blades/rubber have been replaced.
Drivetrain wise, I replaced the original 3.23 open unit with a 3.23 sure grip. I replaced the axle bearing gaskets and adjusted the end play.
I have started accumulating parts to swap the interior back to blue. I have a set of seats that are blue and have the blue hardware. I also have kick panels. The panels in the car are the originals but dyed black. The door panels had speakers installed behind them and have little holes in the panels to let the sound through. I also picked up some interior trim pieces to paint blue. I have a set of restored blue seatbelts.
Overall the car is really nice and I clean it up as I go. It has won a few local trophies as is. I get compliments on it all the time with the white top/stripe combo.
It’s not perfect, but really nice. Check out the pics to see the condition.
