1979 Plymouth Trailduster Sport. No Reserve! Truck has 360, 727, A/C, PDB, P/S, cruise control, bucket seats, center console. GeneralOriginal paint with no body rust through, only surface rust on top of roof above rear windows, and top edges of fenders, where sun baked the paint. No frame, floor, or body rust through. No body or suspension lift. No engine mods. I believe I am the third owner. First owner was a lady, second owner purchased from her but just stored the truck since buying in 2005, I purchased it from him. Truck is very well preserved and could be considered a survivor. This was an original Texas truck, been off the road since 2005, still has Texas window stickers and license plates. PaintI polished the red paint on the hood sides and rear of the truck, and it looks pretty good, but you can tell it's old and original. I did try to polish the silver, it is not very shiny but looks okay. Door jambs and doors, fenders, tail-gate are in great shape with no rust damage. The truck does have minor dings, chips, scratches, consistent with the age of the truck. ExteriorGrille is in very good shape, previous owner added the chrome headlight shades. I added a new front bumper as old one was not very straight. Rear bumper is in good shape with original paint. Lights all work, lenses look good. Glass is all in good shape, both front windows roll up and down properly. Outside trailer mirrors appear to be original and are in good shape other than the mirror glass on the passenger side has stains on the actual mirror. These mirrors are still available for sale new. All chrome and stainless trim is still on the truck and is in good shape. Both the front fender Trailduster emblems were missing, so I located the correct factory emblems. All the other Trailduster and Sport emblems are original to the truck. Roof does not appear to have ever been removed. I rebuilt the wiper drive mechanism under the cowl with new plastic wiper arm bushings, installed new wiper blades, and an NOS control knob as it was missing from the dash. Aluminum running boards look to have been on the truck since new, and are really pretty cool. Lock on drivers door need to be fixed or replaced as I can't get the key in. The lock works fine from the inside. Passenger door locks are good and the key works on that side okay. Spare tire carrier was missing when I bought the truck, but I managed to find one from a Ramcharger. All the carrier mounting brackets were still in place so it just bolted back on where it should have. ExhaustI just had a new full dual exhaust installed with quiet turbo mufflers. Looks and sound really nice, not too loud. BrakesPower brakes work well, I added a new master cylinder. WheelsI added the very rare factory mags which have the Chrysler part number and Pentastar stamped on the back. Factory Chrysler center caps are on the wheels. I have one extra sixth wheel which is included in case needed. I mounted a good used set of 31/10.5/15 tires on the truck, and a new tire on the rear spare carrier. Original five white spoked factory wheels are included, but would need to be painted to look good. These white wheels and the sixth mag can be seen in boxes in the cargo area. InteriorDoor panels are in average shape, with typical wear for the age. Front seat covers are worn and need to be replaced, but the pattern would be hard to find to match the rear seat which still looks nice. The front seat have sheep-skin covers which look decent. I replaced the front carpet since the old one was worn, I used the correct pattern and color and it matches the rear carpet which still looks pretty good. I located an original factory roll bar (not easy to find) which can be seen in the cargo area. The roll bar is included in the sale, but buyer will have the option to install it or not. I replaced the sun baked dash and glove box door with nice used pieces which look good. The door to the center console was broken into several pieces so I used epoxy to put it back together, it really needs a better door to look good. I did add four new polished sill plates to hold down the new carpet. RadioThe original radio was missing so I located a really nice period correct Chrysler AM/FM/CB factory radio and installed it. The wiring harness for the radio plugged right into the truck harness of course. I added a new reproduction antenna base, mast, and cable. I added slim-fit 6x9 speakers into the factory door speaker locations. The stereo looks and sounds really good, better than I expected. I did not add a CB antenna but the cable splinter is provided if the next owner wants to. Engine360 runs and sounds good, and runs cool. I added a rebuilt orig. type Holley two barrel as the old one did not give a very good idle despite my best attempts to clean it, original carb included. I changed the oil and filter. I replaced the coil with a hi-voltage Accel which fits the factory mount. New dist. cap, rotor and plugs. The truck did leave a few drips of oil in my driveway after driving it, but this turned out to be the drain plug washer, replaced it and no more oil leaks. Everything under the hood appears to be original. Cruise control is intact but disconnected from carb, was like that when I bought the truck. I have not attempted to see if it works. Air conditioning system is all intact, but I have not checked to see if it works. It should be able to be serviced and made to work if needed by next owner. Electric fuel pump installed by previous owner, mounted on frame rail, easily removed but seems to work well. With the electric fuel pump there is very little cranking to start the truck, even if it sits for a few weeks... TransmissionThe Torqueflite 727A shifts really well, no leaks. Transfer caseNew Process 203, with full time four wheel drive. Front AxleDana 44 with 3:21 ratio. Rear AxleChrysler 9.25 with 3:21 ratio. Rust free Trailduster with original paint, runs good, looks good, has just the right amount of patina to be cool! A Trailduster is tough to find, a rust free example with original paint is just about impossible! Truck is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.I have a clean Florida title in my name.I am still driving the truck using Florida antique plates, so mileage will change. No Reserve! |
