1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340 Description

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye (JH23H3B275xxx) factory 340c.i.(H-code) car, auto 727 transmission with factory console and factory JY6 Gold paint! The Challenger was completely restored from top to bottom and looks absolutely incredible! It has the factory performance hood (J54), fender tag, black 340 strope side stripe and black R/T hood stripe, factory V1X black vinyl top, AM/FM radio, factory (A57) Rallye package, dual racing mirrors (G37), factory power steering and power front disc brakes, 15” Cragar chrome wheels, rallye instrument gauge cluster, new high end dual exhaust with correct factory chrome tips. The stunning high gloss JY6 Gold metallic base/clear paint is the correct factory color. The Challenger restoration was just finished in 2016 and has less than 350 miles on it and looks incredible! The body numbers match on the hood to cowl area, VIN tag, original fender tag and the clear PA title in my name. You must check these numbers to authenticate that it is a real 340 Rallye Challenger. This is an absolutely beautiful car and a fine example of what a factory Rallye 340 Challenger should be! I believe the mileage is correct at 84,314 and stated on the PA title. When doing a restoration of this caliber takes a lot of time, patience and money to be done correctly. Please understand this is not your average “driver” condition 340 Challenger!!!

PAINT AND BODY

The body is in excellent shape and was from South Carolina before coming to PA. The super high-gloss deep clear coat shine was just professionally wet sanded with 2000, 2500, 3000 and 5000 grit paper to achieve the high caliber ultra shine finish. This long process alone took over 40 hours and the finish shows it! The Challenger has new quarters, trunk extensions, trunk floor and new hood installed. The frame rails and floors are very nice and clean and look great! The Challenger was painted about 4 years ago with base coat/clear coat and is in unbelievable condition… it has that deep wet look shine! The complete restoration was just finished and is ready to enjoy! If you think it looks good in the photos you need to see it in person! The paint in all the door jams, trunk and engine bay look fantastic. I am very critical on paint and there are only a few extremely minor flaws in the paint. There are few marks in the metalic around the front side marker lens(RH) and the very top of the door to quarter seems could be a little closer on both sides. These are extremely minor flaws and if you have any questions I will be glad to go into great detail (or do a complete walk around of the car) just call me at 412-496-1439. The underside of the trunk lid and hood are also in excellent stunning condition. The doors open and close excellent with the ease of a finger and even the door latches and strikers were cleaned and polished.

GLASS, CHROME AND TRIM

The glass is in very good condition with only a few very minor marks. The front and rear glass are both brand new and in excellent shape (Mopar). The original Chrysler side is in nice condition and only have a few scratches. All windows and locks operate as should. New door locks and trunk lock were installed. The front bumper and rear bumper are brand new and have excellent chrome. The window trim is very clean and was polished for optimum shine. The door handles and flip up Challenger gas cap are also brand new. The taillights and grill are in very nice shape with no cracks.

INTERIOR

The interior was re-done with factory seat covers, carpet, headliner, trunk divider, speaker shelf, dash cap and sill plates. The doors panels are restored and are decent condition but not concours perfect. The new headliner is nice but could have been installed better as it still has several wrinkles and needs pulled tighter. The factory rallye gauge cluster was checked over and is in very nice condition. All factory gauges work and operate correctly. The factory clock does not operate. All lighting works as should including the high/low beams, dome light, tail lights, parking lights, turn signals, four-way flashers and license plate light. The factory style AM/FM radio is a correct Mopar restoration one with all the new electronics. The E-brake, defrosters, heater, fan, horn, speedometer and dimmer switch work as should. The Challenger was a factory A/C car H51. The a/c engine parts are gone but the interior under dash stuff looks to be there.

DRIVE TRAIN

The engine bay is completely restored to original show condition and is very correct. The 340 makes excellent power, runs very strong through all the gears and sounds great. The 340 is a correct date coded 1973 motor. It may be a warranty exchange block with the ID surface being flat with no stamp. The 340 was checked over and installed new oil pan gasket, rear main seal, intake gasket, distributor and drive gear, carb, fuel pump, oil and water senders and much more! I believe it had a very mild cam installed at some time. The 340 gives an excellent range of power and maintains 17lbs of vacuum as should. It has factory 340 manifolds, factory intake (3671918) and correct 1973 340 heads (3671587J) open chamber. I only use the Brad Penn High Performance oil, which was changed and is ready to go! It is one of the best oils on the market and already has the higher Zinc added in for older cars. The 340 has a casting date of 8-2-72 and engine casting # is 2780930-340-1. The numbers on the front of the block just under the head are JM340 4112 8182. The J is correct 1973 and the M is the Mount Road Plant. The 340 is topped of with the correct 340 1973 intake and has a brand new Edelbrock series 600 cfm carb with electric choke. The newer restored Chrysler factory radiator is the original 1973 26” part number 3673024 and has the correct fan shroud. It cools excellent even on hotter summer days! The Auto 727 transmission is also a correct date coded trans but not numbers matching. It is a 1973 and has a number of PK 3681053 4232 (built 2-27-73) 9655 on the ID surface. The 727 was also checked over and has had the bands adjusted, new pan gasket, shift shaft seal, filter and oil. It is absolutely awesome and a blast to drive! The rear end is a 8 3/4 with a new rebuilt 3.55 posi center and a 742 case number on it. The rear end is painted and still has a factory paint mark on it! The new center section also has a new gasket, 80/90 oil and posi additive. The axles have also been redone with new seals, axle bearings and correct factory end play adjusted. This excellent drive train combo has very good performance and handles great in all conditions whether highway or city driving. This is a very tight and excellent smooth running and driving Challenger! Please look at the photos closely to see the amount of detail work that was done! Even the undercarriage of the Challenger is unbelievably clean and done right!

SUSPENSION

The front suspension was just completely restored. It was completely disassembled down to the bare K-member and all parts were blasted, primered and painted. All new suspension parts are Moog parts including upper and lower control arm bushings, upper and lower ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, inner and outter tie rods, adjustment sleeves and sway bar end links. The shocks are new front and rear and the rear shocks are adjustable air shocks (USA). The brake lines and fuel lines are new from front to back. The gas tank, straps and sending unit are also brand new.

I typically restore and finish around 10 Mopars a year and have been working on them for more than 30 years. I do every one as if it were my own to keep. I put a lot of time, effort, pride and money in the cars I offer for sale which is evident when viewing one of my cars compared to others for sale. This is one of the few cars you can view in person and say that it is actually nicer than the photos.
