1941 Dodge WD-15 ¾-ton Pickup Truck 218 CID Flathead six-cylinder engine (T-114) Three-speed manual transmission Reconnaissance Red over black exterior and a tan with black interior 120-inch wheelbase Six-volt electrical system and electric fuel pump Crank-out front windshield and cowl lights Oaken bed floor Floor-mounted stick shift Push-out hood ventIn 1939, Dodge presented a completely new line of pickups and trucks with streamlined, art-deco styled cabs that continued until and after the United States joined World War II. Due the federal government purchasing most of the 1942 run of WD-15s for military use, few were made for civilian consumption.MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1941 Dodge WD-15 ¾-ton pickup truck made in Chrysler’s Detroit, Michigan factory. Finished in Reconnaissance Red over black, the paint and trim are in overall very good condition. The bodywork is straight, the cargo bay, with its wooden floor, is in very good shape and its black bumpers are shiny. Some unique features include a crank-out windshield for added ventilation, cowl lights and a push-out hood vent. This truck rides on a 120-inch wheelbase. With these “Job-Rated” trucks, Dodge tried to offer customers a truck that fit the job for which they were bought and that included offering an exceptionally large number of variants — six different payload ratings, a wide range of bodies, more than 20 different wheelbase-lengths were made and fitted with various versions of Chrysler-sourced inline six-cylinder side-valve engines — from the half-ton TC pickup on a 116-inch wheelbase to three-ton tractor cabs. Nevertheless, mechanically, the trucks were all very similar, with solid axles front and rear and leaf springs at all four corners. As stated earlier, with World War II taking up most of production capacity from 1942 to 1945, the 1939 styling continued largely unchanged through 1947, as engineering and production became the main focus. This Dodge is shod with Allstate Super Highway King tires, size 6.00-16 at all four wheels. Each tire is mounted on red wheels with factory center caps. The tires are in very good condition while the wheels are in excellent order.Under that tall hood is a 218 CID Flathead inline six-cylinder engine (T-114). It has its original six-volt electrical system but has been upgraded with an electric fuel pump for easy starting. Backing the motor is a three-speed manual transmission. The truck has a drop-forged I-beam front axle and a semi-floating rear axle with hypoid gears.Inside, the truck’s red and black interior is in good, overall condition. The tank crinkle vinyl bench seat looks great, as does the black floor matting. The headliner and three-spoke steering wheel are in good, original condition, as are the inner door liners. The red, metal instrument panel is in very good order, with a full array of gauges, however, the odometer is obscured and the speedometer, wipers, horn, fuel and temperature gauge are inoperable.Dodge’s striking new design for 1939 featured an all-steel cab with a two-piece windshield that could be opened for increased airflow. The unique front-end design: a barrel-shaped grille, crowned front fenders, and free-standing headlamps mounted in bullet-shaped pods, was only really changed in 1940, when Dodge trucks began using sealed-beam headlamps and were equipped with marker lights mounted on the headlamp housing. For the most part, after 1940, year-to-year appearance changes were very minimal. The Job-Rated trucks had stronger frames than previous Dodge trucks, using steel with a higher tensile strength, the rails extended further forward past the engine than before, and the trucks beefy channel-type bumpers helped to tie the frame rails together.VIN: 8217364Build #: 2610This truck is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 26,480 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title.
