This 1946 Dodge DD-4 2-Ton dually truck is about as unique as they come. Oversized in every way, it draws attention wherever it goes. Makes young and old alike smile from ear to ear. “Atlas” starts easily, runs perfectly, and drives surprisingly well for a 73-year-old truck. The body, frame, engine, and transmission are all believed to be original to the truck, with the exception of the passenger door, which was replaced during the truck’s 2001-2005 restoration. The original painted door sign from that door is now showcased on the rear of the truck, framed in steel and attached to a storage box. Period-correct accessories adorn the truck, including compass, external spotlight, ammeter, Motorola CB radio (not functional), fog-lights, steering-column mounted flashlight, and a period-correct fire extinguisher (another modern fire extinguisher is mounted on the flat-bed). The truck’s electrical system is 6V positive ground. All lights work, as do the speedometer, fuel gauge, ammeter, and oil pressure gauges.
The paint and details on this truck are spectacular. But don’t let the good looks fool you – this truck can still work hard and haul the heaviest loads or pull out the toughest stumps. Or cruise around town. The vinyl decals on the doors are easily removed so make it your own!
This 1946 Dodge DD-4 2-Ton truck was built in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and first owned by C.L. Hartley Feed, Lumber, and Building Materials in Athens, Ontario. It was delivered as a 160” wheelbase flatbed, but some time in its 73-year history the frame was shortened and a commercial 5th wheel hitch was installed.
In 1997 a mechanic from Stittsville, Ontario, purchased the truck. He performed a complete body-off restoration from 2001-2005. As part of this restoration he:
In 2017 I purchased the truck from him and moved it to Maryland. Since then, I have:
Since the restoration, the truck has driven 2,424 miles (though the actual total mileage is unknown), and is now offered for sale. The 5th wheel hitch is included for the winning bidder if you would like it. Please ask any questions, and contact me if you would like to inspect the truck before bidding (Michael @ 301.651.9446)
