1990 Dodge Ram 2500 Base Description

1990 Dodge Ram W250

12V Cummins Factory Non-Intercooled Engine

4x4 SRW - 727 Auto - Dana 60 / 70 axles

Currently has 162K miles

All fluids and filters are changed according to the Factory Service Manual. I’m very meticulous with my repairs and maintenance. Everything I have done is torqued to spec, new parts (nothing cheap), MOPAR or better fluids, diesel addictive with every fill up, NMF addictive in all compatible fluids, and I don’t cut corners. I won’t even reuse nuts/bolts, if stated by FSM or I will rethread/change as necessary.

Engine -

The million mile motor, 12V Cummins with factory Non-IC came only in 1989-1991.5. This front end (with a cummins) was only produced in those specific years as well. No blow by, starts up instant with no cranking, and no leaks. Never has it gave me any issues so I haven’t touched it. Previous owner fixed the infamous Killer Dowel Pin, KDP. The fuel pin has been upgraded by previous owner. I’m unaware of anything else that has been upgraded but you can definitely feel the power difference from stock. It has upgraded 4” down pipe and exhaust with no muffler.

Transmission -

727 Chrysler 3-speed Automatic with no O/D. Solid transmission, if well taken care of. A very simple transmission that can hold decent power/towing. Maintenance always done on time with filter change every time. Bands have been adjusted properly at every specified interval. 91.5-93 Throttle Valve cable has been installed to replace the no longer produced faulty constantly stuck previous TV cable. The adapter has a crack in it but I will include an original transfer case adapter to replace it with. It’s cracked by the mounting point so no leaking problems would arise. Also, shifter doesn’t click into each position. It seems that the rooster comb ball fell out. It will need to be replaced to have a distinctive click

Drivetrain -

Dana 60 4,500 front axle with infamous King Pins instead of ball joints. No issues with 4x4 but I honestly don’t use it much.

Dana 70 6,000 lb rear axle. Brand new wheel seals, inner and outer bearings/races, axles inspected (not even the slightest nick on them), fluids with NMF and differential gasket.

Steering -

Everything is factory and it needs the steering upgraded because the wheel has significant play. It’s a common issue in these older rams. Everyone goes with the red top steering box for tight steering upgrade.

Brakes -

Front Rotors with rear drums. Upgraded to 1 ton specs. Brand new bigger drums, internal springs, self adjusters, parking brake clips, upgraded 7/8 bore wheel cylinders to 1-1/8 bore, and upgraded 2” brake shoes to 3” brake shoes.

Installed new LF caliper (stuck piston) with brand new vented rotor and brake pads. RF rotor/caliper are still solid but I will include the rotor and front wheel seal with the purchase of the truck. Pads were installed on both sides. The truck has been sitting in the garage. Braking has improved plenty but there is a pull to one side (probably due to steering)

The Few Electronics -

Wires don’t seem to be tampered with heavily which is a common issue in these trucks. I cleaned up some parts that did seem poorly done. Dodge’s wiring was poor to begin with. I soldered, crimped, heat shrinked and added flame retardant protectors where needed. I would add aftermarket gauges for EGT and Pyro since they didn’t come from factory. These are very useful for older diesels. This 12V (89-91.5) is the pre-PCM so no need to worry about any computers at all. Power windows work and power locks are inoperable at the moment. I bought used ones but I haven’t installed or tested. Will include those with purchase

Speedometer and odometer recently stopped working. Another common issue in these trucks. I have not attempted to fix this since it is not my daily driver.

Other -

Bed liner was completely redone less than a year ago. The pictures don’t do it justice. No cheap stuff and it’s not faded. Just dusty.

Previous owner wired trailer hook up in the bed for a 5th wheel, never tested it or had a 5th wheel. There is no receiver currently installed but I will include a bolted rear trailer hitch rated to 17,000 pounds specifically for this truck.

New door locks installed (2 keys included)

Left power window motor replaced

Factory radio will be removed and replaced with single din radio. I would be willing to upgrade if asked.

Paint is in good condition, done by previous owner. Looks amazing on the panels but it was done by a lazy painter. No major defects, just taped around things instead of removing and missed hood jambs and other crevices.

Interior is in good condition. It does show some sign of age and cracking but all the pieces are there. It does has that tar looking stain on the seat but I will attempt to remove with professional steaming equipment.

**PLEASE NOTE THE TRUCK WILL NOT BE COMING WITH THOSE WHEELS AND TIRES**

REASON FOR SELLING -

I’m in the military. I will be moving within a year. I have 4 vehicles including my wife’s and I just don’t have the time to finish this truck so I need to start downsizing. It doesn’t require money but it does require a bit of time. I rather put the time into my daily driven truck at the moment.

Truck doesn’t NEED anything but it does have its little things. I like building perfect vehicles so I replace everything and upgrade a lot. I can help you locate parts and even give you advice if needed. Please remember this is a few months away from being a 30 year old truck. These trucks are getting harder to find in good condition. Once you fix them up, they almost never need anything. This truck is close to being perfect but it still needs TLC so it needs to be sold AS-IS. I’m not aware of any other issues other than what I put in the ad. I have tried to be as descriptive has possible with this truck but I cannot guarantee anything. I can guarantee you that no one is as honest as I am here. Many trucks I have seen have the same issues if not more than this truck. It’s an amazing truck.

Please message me with more questions and if you like pictures of anything specifically. Thank you!

Last few pictures are the wheels that the truck will come with. Those are factory wheels with hubcaps. Also, I added more pictures of engine bay per request.
