MotoeXotica Classic Cars offers this vintage and original 1977 Dodge B300 Camper Van by Coachmen Industries. Made right here at Chrysler’s Fenton, Missouri assembly plant in March 1977 then shipped to Middlebury, Indiana to Coachmen Recreational Vehicles for a full camper van factory conversion. Coachmen Industries was one of the worlds largest full-line manufacturer of recreational vehicles in the 1970’s and still produce RV’s today! This Coachmen was sold new at Niehaus Motor Company in Burlington Iowa on 7/25/77 with 525 miles on the odometer. The original family from North Liberty Iowa occasionally used the the van over the next four decades and was then sold at their estate sale on 8/19/2016 to the second family from Iowa City with 80,500 miles on the odometer. The new owners did some major refreshing of the van immediately as they wanted to use it on the open road. Their first service was new wheels and tires, new CD player, all new belts, new Kohler air element, new front and rear heavy duty shocks, new air and oil filter, new coolant, new brake calipers, new brake master cylinder, new side cab lights, new 4ft antenna, service generator and wheel alignment for a cost of over $3,000. In 2017 at 82,594 miles more service was performed such as new fuel pump, idler pulley, freon and A/C service, new deep cycle battery, replaced sink, faucet and fittings, new shower lines, cleaned rooftop air unit, repair all water lines and flush tanks, cleaned water heater, stove and furnace for a cost of over $1,700. The camper van was always stored inside and is still finished in its original white with Coachmen orange striping that is in overall great original order. When new, Ziebart rust protection was applied by the selling dealer. The body is straight and solid and the chrome bumpers are in very good order. A set of new Goodyear Wrangler HT radials, size LT225/75R16, at every corner, plus a rear-mounted spare tire. All are mounted on 16x7 aluminum mag wheels. The wheels are in very good order, as are the tires. The original steel wheels and original hubcaps are also included. The van has an 8,200 GVWR and a 127-inch wheelbase. A 360 CID V-8 4bbc engine is under the hood (VIN code F) with power steering and power front disc brakes. Backing up this motor is Chryslers famous Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. Also included with the correct Onan 2.7 AJ electric generator but needs to be rebuilt due to a bad bearing. Inside of this Coachmen camper van are practically-designed appointments, uniquely suited to the needs of almost any active family. Room for a carpool of kids and a full supply of groceries. Comfortable sleeping capacity for those leisurely camping trips. Inside is overall original and in excellent original shape, there are three captain’s chairs, and a bench seat, all done in brown cloth with skirts and look great. The original Coachmen gold shag carpet covers the floor. There’s also an overhead sleeping bunk. The window treatments are polyester. Behind the third captain’s chair and couch are a 12,000 BTU furnace, Coleman air condition, 2.5 cuft mini refrigerator, a microwave, a 12-inch television, shower stall, marine toilet, stainless steel sink, 23 gallon water tank, two-burner stove with oven, 110v electric system with outlets and 32 gallon LP tank. Dodge vans, particularly Tradesman vans from the 1971–1977 model years, were very popular as the basis for many custom vans during the custom van craze that occurred during the mid- to late 1970s and early 1980s. Dodge capitalized on this craze, creating a factory customization package called the “Street Van” package. This was advertised alongside the Lil' Red Express and Warlock trucks as “Adult Toys.” The Street Van package consisted of a logo on the passenger and driver's side door in lieu of the Tradesman logos, chrome trim on the grille and windshield, simulated wood grain inlays in the steering wheel horn cover and passenger side glare shield, five-slot chrome wheels or white spoked “off-road” type wheels, chrome front and rear bumpers, chrome trim on the gauges, smaller chrome side-view mirrors, patterns and plans to create custom interiors, and membership in the “Dodge Van Clan.” This package was available from the 1976 model year until it was discontinued in the early 1980s. Competition to this B300 in 1977 include conversions of Chevrolet’s G30, Ford’s E-350 and GMC’s Vandura 3500 and Volkswagen’s Bus.
