1978 Dodge Other Pickups short bed Description
Up for sale is a 1978 Dodge D150 shortbed pickup. Very clean and runs good. The truck is from IDAHO (I have proof of this), so it is really solid. It has only been in the Northeast a few months. Firstly, like I said the body is very clean and doesn't appear to me to have any work done to it. It has been repainted a while back, dark green over a different shade of green. That paint is showing its age, chipping in spots as well as getting thin in other spots, allowing original green to start to show through. But I think the aging looks good. There is some surface patina rust that also compliments the over all look of the truck. Wheel openings, rockers, cab corners, hood, fender/quarter bottoms are all IDAHO rock solid. The truck had huge, ugly towing mirrors when I bought it. I took them out and plugged their mounting holes with black nuts and bolts. The only real rust is in the driver side floor. Its not terrible but its there. I brought some time repairing it, and I personally wouldn't put in a floor pan right now. I wire brushed the floor and POR 15'd it. I screwed license plates over the two or three holes (holes about the size of a golf ball). Then I installed a Dynamat type product, which gives it a ton of rigidity. I then installed a quality ACC carpet with the heavy rubber and insulation.
Interior: The interior is really clean, the dash isn't cracked and I installed a quality seat cover over a seat that had just minor holes in the original cover. I relocated to stereo to the glove box, so I could install a radio delete dash and ran an aux plug to the ash tray. There is no antenna on this truck, block off plate installed. Original dash with radio cut out will go with truck if you want to put the radio back in the dash. I also installed a tach. 6x9's in boxes behind the seat.
Mechanically:The truck runs well. It has a 360 ci engine, 4 barrel carb and a 727 auto trans. Odometer shows 102,000 miles, but I have no idea if this is accurate. I tuned it up, replaced the belts and installed a new brake booster and master cylinder. A previous owner installed a cam (unkown size), so there's a "bump" at idle. He also installed an Edlebrock carb and manifold and LOKAR cables. I drained and filled the rear diff and did a complete transmission service, including sealing it up. Put on a brand new dual exhaust with Jeg's two chamber mufflers exiting through Ford Lightning exhaust tips. It has brand new black steel Cragar 69 wheels and brand new Cooper Cobra tires. (Truck will come with the white steel wagon wheels and decent tires if you don't like the wheels I put on). I installed 4 new shocks, a centerlink and had it aligned when I did the wheels.
Known Issues: Windshield leaks a little in heavy rain (probably why driver side floor rusted). I never tackled this as I garage the truck. Some of the weather stripping is dry leading to air noise when driving and possible water leaks (I replaced some). Maybe a carb adjustment. Rear main seal sweats a little (not major, maybe spots the size of a dime or a nickel). But that's about it. It starts easily and runs good. I've driven this thing 200 miles, each way, to Pennsylvania without issue.
