1980 Ferrari 308 Targa Description

Ferrari fans, settle in, get a bottle of water, a cold beer or a cup of coffee. This is a long ad, but by far, a car worth the read, because it is the one you have waiting for! I am absolutely thrilled to offer for a sale this BEAUTIFUL, serviced, 1980 Ferrari 308GTSi! It has been very well cared for and drives like a dream and looks absolutely stunning in Rosso Corsa over Nero Leather! Let's dive right in!

Background:

When built in 1980, this Ferrari was one of the untouchables. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti, the genius behind the Ferrari Daytona, Dino, F40, 288 GTO, and many other ICONS, the 308 quickly became the symbol of 1980's success and sporting. Supple leather, power windows, AC, proper Italian seating position, a wonderful 5 speed gearbox, and a 205hp symphony of a small displacement V8 and on and on. That little gem, was a screamer for the era too and still gets up and boogies now! Porsche 911SC eat my dust!

This red headed beauty has been thoughtfully serviced and refinished. Loads of service and new parts throughout! The 37 year leather was completely removed and redone in 100% factory correct pattern in high quality leather. The engine has had every major service you would ever need with only 37k miles. And on and on and on. This car has received PILES AND PILES of love, restoration, service and attention and is ready to find a new home.

I promise you, the details are better than the summary, so please read on! Let's continue to the service!

The Condition and Service:

This 308 has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained, serviced and is a high standard for Ferrari service!

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:

This engine had very low miles for the year with 37,000 miles appear on the odometer. It showed no signs of distress, issues, overheating, etc. But as part of a effort to have her last for many more years, the engine has had a wonderful refresh. There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this car to keep the engine in near brand new condition. The motor is very healthy and has loads of smooth power! And a happy Ferrari will go and go and go happily for hundreds of thousands of miles. And this happy Ferrari has received LOADS of preventative maintenance to make sure of that.

-ENGINE

As part of the preventive service schedule, this 308 received full Timing Belt Service including tensioners, all new coolant hoses, water pump, coolant and fresh oil. The detail work goes on and on. This service was done within 100 miles as part of this car's ongoing preventative care in preparation for a new home. THIS is the maintenance you want to see on a Ferrari! The timing belt service is the KEY major service you want to see for engine longevity and saving money!

-IGNITION SYSTEM

BRAND NEW wires, NOS caps and new plugs. This engine runs like it is brand new! Easy cold start up and no dead spots in the throttle.

-BATTERY

BRAND NEW. Cranks hard and fast everytime!

-TRANSMISSION

The trans was just given BRAND NEW fluid and shifts great! Crisp, no popping out and conversely, not hard to get into gear either. Like it was new!

Lets move to the chassis, suspension and brakes:

-STEERING

BRAND NEW rebuilt rack and pinion! Great sharp steering!

-UNDERCARRIAGE

Great solid floors and frame. No rust, or rot. No scary lipstick cover ups like so many other F-cars. Only the typical road wear/light grim/wear surface oxidation on bolt heads, chipped underbody coating and such.

-BRAKES

BRAND NEW rear rotors and pads. Great life on the fronts. BRAND NEW brake fluid flush.

-SPRINGS and SHOCKS

Great suspension, no bangs, undulating shocks or odd noises.

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT

The paint is gorgeous! It is a 8+/9- out of 10. Shiny, beautiful Rosso Corsa paint was repainted in its original shade about 5 years ago and has seen only light use and has retained its luster and integrity. It was not a quick pay and spray job either. It is a VERY nice job that shows and shines as a factory beautiful job would. No expense spared job! It has been recently polished, finished and waxed by a highly acclaimed detailer here in LA. NO ACCIDENTS! NO STORIES. The black A-pillars have some light checking up close, but do little to take away from the beauty of this car. The body is in very nice shape with only minor inclusions at best like some rock chips on the underside of the rockers. Remember this is a near 37 year old car, there may be some very minor flaws, wear not discussed in detail etc, but they are well below any expectation level for 308 or cars of this year. Even against more modern cars the paint will compete head to head - it really is beautiful.

-TIRES

BRAND NEW Falken tires with 95% tread!

-WHEELS

Gorgeous, freshly 16" wheels look great and are a very nice upgrade to the stock metric wheels which limit tire choices to very lackluster options.

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS

Take a moment, to go look at the BRAND NEW Nero leather seats below, I will wait.....you back? I will give you a moment to reattach your jaw! BRAND NEW leather graces this cabin top to bottom! The old leather after 30+ years needed some love, so each seating panel was disassembled, measured and each new panel cut from the old to make the exact OEM pattern and used the exact OEM grain! You can not tell these are not a set of brand new factory seats that were put away since new! And let's not forget the smell! Wonderful, clean, leather interior smell. The material is SO soft and comfortable. I truly love driving this car.

-CARPET

Very nice carpet in the car! It has been shampooed and cleaned as part of the overall detail. Not shown: BRAND NEW weather stripping.

-DASHBOARD

Gorgeous shape dash with very little wear! Shiny surfaces with no cracks in the leatherette. The gauge cluster surround is in great shape too!

-POWER WINDOWS

BRAND NEW rebuilt window regulators. All windows work smooth and quickly!

-RADIO

The replacement radio works great and sounds good!

-AC/HEAT

BRAND NEW AC rebuild/recharge. AC is arctic cold and heat is earth core hot!

-POWER MIRRORS

Power mirrors work perfectly!

-STEERING WHEEL

The leather is very nice, no tears or issues or major issues, very minor wear only! It has been conditioned and feels great in your hands!

-CARGO AREA

Great shape. Not shown: battery cover which is included.

The Experience

There is no Ferrari ownership like owning a very well sorted and thought out Ferrari. It is just a much different experience then any other. There is a tightness, a cleanliness, and sense of what this car was like when brand new. The wear for a neglected car are gone. Let alone, remember every component only has that many few miles on it or has been rebuilt or serviced. Combined with LOADS AND LOADS of preventative and scheduled maintenance it really does not get any better for a Ferrari or any car for that matter. Driving this 308 is fantastic. It pulls and handles like the sports car that it is and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce. It has all the power it had from the factory an then some, and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive.

So what is it like to drive this beauty? You have to start at your approach to her. Glossy, clean and detailed, she sits just at the right height. The classic Italian lines mixed with a crisp, glossy red color are inviting enough, but open that door and that burst of brand new leather comes at you, that it might as well be 1980 again. It is like climbing into a time machine! Turn the key and the V8 whirls to life with its distinctive Ferrari tamber and its slight deep undernote too. Its a wonderful and unique combo. Close the door and it is all but quiet inside aside from your cold AC fan noise and few great sounding tunes. Press the gas and off you go for a comfy cruise. You sit with high hands on the wheel, almost with an heir of "I'm about to wring this baby out!" position with excellent vision in all directions. Need to pass that slow car in the right lane? Give her a boot of throttle and she revs up and surges past! The legendary Ferrari is just a thing of beauty to look at, the drive and is one of the easiest Ferraris to live with. This car is only going to continue to rise and rise in value!

The Wrap Up

I hope you can tell by my long ad that this car is a great pre-owned and beautiful Ferrari. There are other 308, but if you do find one for sale and it has more methodical service, I urge you to buy it! Remember, Ferrari take some extra care and feeding, they are not a Honda, so a Ferrari with 37k miles with questionable or poor RECENT service history is worth about as much as a Slurpee if you add up all the service that will need to be done to make it a reliable, beautiful, solid car again. Don't spend big money on a car from a "turn-em-and-burn-em" style dealer when all they do to promote the car is say a few things they think people like to hear. As you may tell from my ad, I know the care that these cars need and the details that make them tier 1, from a tier 2 or worse and I hope to have addressed them to those of you that know as well. If an ad says "Low miles and well cared for" Ask questions! If you don't get thorough, well addressed answers, start planning more money and more aspirin. If you were to add up all of the recent items in this car, you would find well over $18,000 in recent retail scheduled and preventive service and restoration alone. This car is ready to go live MANY MANY miles of beautiful, reliable, enjoyed life in your hands. Don't buy an unserviced car for a little less than spend multiple times as much to get it to this level of service!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all. Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new car as soon as possible.

My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to describe accurately the shape of the car, but keep in mind it is impossible to discuss every detail of a car for better or worse. I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Ferrari (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these cars. That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use despite its service and restoration. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 37,000 mile car that has received some nice refreshing cosmetically and mechanically. This is good miles for Ferrari of this year, but please just remember that no 37,000 mile car is perfect. It is though a clean, very nice Ferrari! Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have an Ebay 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after, if you intend to use that service. And please, if you would like to utilize this service, contact me with more than a couple days left in the auction so we can arrange schedules. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Buying over the internet can be scary sometimes! I get it, because I am an enthusiast too!! For that very reason, I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! It is impossible to list every pro and con of a car, I am not an inspection service, it is your responsibility as a buyer to do your due diligence and inspect the car. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech!

Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
