Gorgeous Red/Tan 1987 Ferrari Testarossa -- Same Owner 16+ Years!
1987 Ferrari Testarossa Description
Because my priorities in life have changed and I don't have the time to go on long, glorious drives anymore, I am reluctantly selling my beloved Testarossa, which I have owned for 16 1/2 years. The car runs and drives PERFECTLY. Just had it out Sunday! The car has only about 28,200 miles. I bought it in April 2001 with 13,000 miles. Sitting down? I have $41,500.00 in receipts for things I have done to the car since purchase. The car has been fastidiously maintained by Competizione & Sports Cars in Gaithersburg, Maryland. During my ownership, I have had two engine-out major services (with a new clutch done during the first, not because it needed it but my mechanic said why not, while he had the engine out). The most recent major service ($12,625.36) was done less than 2000 miles ago. In order to get the car ready for sale, I had it in to Competizione 3 months ago for a fluid flush, oil change, and general going-over, at a cost of $3000.00 -- car has been driven about 40 miles since then. In addition to the major services, regular oil and fluid changes, a/c servicing, etc., here is a partial list of things I have had done over the years: brake pads, 4 wheel alignment, coils, starter, clutch master cylinder, heater control valve, tires, spark plugs, c.v. joint assemblies, brake calipers, shift rod, motor mount, boot kits and clamps, exhaust header, throttle plate adjustment, ignition coil/module, coil wire, c.v. boots, sealing rings, O-rings, ANSA exhaust test pipes with stainless steel tips (original cats are included), chrome wheels, side rockers and front spoiler painted matching red, 3M clear protectant film on spoiler and partially up front hood, as well as side mirrors, brake cylinder, wheel bearings and seals, a/c belt, tires, battery. The list goes on and on and on. Literally whatever the car has needed, it has gotten, without fail. I recall also replacing the fuse box (again, merely a maintenance item), but the receipt is not jumping out at me in my records binder. I also replaced the red ignition wires, again prophylactically. I even had the engine repainted during its last major service! If you are a purist, this car is not for you. I put a chrome cavallino on the back because it looks better IMHO. I replaced the ugly black plastic ball shifter with a billet aluminum Momo King shifter, I installed a pop-up Alpine Multimedia stereo system, with iPod hook-up in the glove compartment, with a 10-CD changer. The chrome wheels, IMHO, look much better than stock. The red painted rockers and spoiler give the car a "fatter," more modern look IMHO. The windows go up and down as they should. The a/c blows cold as it should. The car runs and drives perfectly. It has always been kept inside my "fun-cars-only" garage, and comes with a California Car Cover as well. When not being used, I keep the front boot released and the battery turned off. I have driven this car from D.C. to Montreal for the Canadian F-1 several times. It is by no means a garage queen, and has all of the tiny stone chips in the spoiler that one would expect from a car that is actually enjoyed. The paint looks great -- but I will let the pictures tell the story. I am not constrained to sell the car (no financial issues, no psychological issues, and no divorce issues [of which I am aware, LOL]), so I will see what this listing brings and take it from there. I am familiar with the recent market trends for TRs, including Hagarty's actual market sales data. This is a true, honest car, without stories, and has served me well for 16 1/2 years (a third of my life!) More than happy to answer any questions, and more than happy to show it to individuals demonstrating a serious interest coupled with an ability to actually purchase the car. I much prefer you see, touch, hear, and feel the car in person. As you can see in one of the pictures, the dash is doing its typical pulling away from the windshield. Inasmuch as it has never bothered me, I have not bothered to do anything about it. Books, records, and tool kits are included, as well as some nice carpeted floor mats with red prancing horses and "Ferrari" embossed on them. I am hoping to get right around $115,000.00, which I think is fair, given the maintenance and service history, and seems darned reasonable compared to other listings for cars with a lot more miles.....I will be reasonable and am not looking to get every last nickel out of it. I much prefer a hassle-free transaction. I have unencumbered title in hand -- whether I can get myself to sign it over to a buyer will be another question (kidding). Please no silly lowball offers -- I have already been offered high five figures for the car from a couple of people. Any questions, requests for the service records, or pics of different angles, please contact me.
