The Pininfarina-styled 308 was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1975 as a supplement to the unloved Bertone-shaped Dino 308 GT4 and a replacement for the Dino 246. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti who had been responsible for some of Ferrari's most celebrated shapes to date such as the Daytona, the Dino and the Berlinetta Boxer. With sweeping curves and aggressive lines, the 308 has become one of the most recognized and iconic Ferrari road cars.
Completed in August of 1978, this gorgeous carbureted GTS wears appropriate polished Rosso paint over Tan leather appointments, equipped with air conditioning and power windows. In 2014, this 308 received a total of three Major Services addressing the timing belts, gaskets, seals, heads, auxiliary mechanical equipment and electrical system. Just prior, a cosmetic freshening was commissioned to the car's paint and upholstery - all resulting in a beautifully presented 308 both mechanically and visually. The restored cabin features Daytona style seating with matching headliner, shelf and pillars, along with a modern radio head unit and supplemental Prancing Horse floor mats. Both front and rear compartments are detailed with correct spare tire up front and working zippered rear containing the original tool and emergency rolls. The Ferrari's body and paint are of very nice driver quality with great seams, seals and gaps although there are areas where the paint has lifted (pictured). Color-matched European bumpers and refinished 7.5x14 Cromodora wheels compliment the pleasing aesthetics. The odometer reads 56,331 miles which are believed to be original.
This GTS feels solid behind the wheel with plenty of smooth power and a very clean and maintained undercarriage with correctly trimmed engine bay. Recent servicing records and registrations accompany the sale. It appears Ferrari 308's are continuing their steady rise in the market, with emphasis focusing on the earlier carbureted examples. This North American spec GTS is now available at a great price for worldwide inspection, purchase and delivery.
