Fiat 500D Trasformabile Classic / 1962 / Low KMs & Owners / Fully Restored!
1962 Fiat 500 500 D Trasformabile Description
Fiat 500D Trasformabile Classic / 1962 / LHD Italy / Low KMs & Owners / Fully Restored & Exceptional!
This splendid example is the highly desirable D model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare suicide doors, a full length convertible sunshine roof - trasformabile, round speedo & original matching numbers engine - In fact it has it all!
Its an original genuine Trasformabile according to the Italian logbook, LHD & built on 1st June 1962 & resident in Terni, which is a city in the Southern portion of the region of Umbria in central Italy. (104 KMs northeast of Roma).
Indeed the car was fully restored there by its long term owner Demis & then sold in 2002 to its next long term owner who resided in Bruge, Belgium. Brought over to our shores in 2015 by a local Kent collector this splendid well travelled example is beautifully prepared & offered for sale.
Demis its long term Italian custodian completed its full restoration completing in 2002 at his local Italian sports car specialist. It is absolutely fantastic & a testament to the quality & attention to detail on what appears a no expense spared basis.
We are told Demis spent over 8,000 Euros on the restoration (not including the vehicle in the first place).
This is one of the best & correctly restored 500Ds we have offered & better than my own example. Demis was a 500 enthusiast & his knowledge & understanding of the correct parts & original detailing is exceptional. It took us a while to acquire this vehicle for the correct price, but it was well worth the wait!
This beautiful example is eminently usable as it has its original matching numbers rebuilt Fiat 499cc engine with original rebuilt gearbox, it drives & as good as it looks!
Demis entrusted this vehicle to his local specialist whom embarked on a full pain staking nut & bolt restoration to concours standard completing in 2002 under his watchful eye. Basically every thing has been reconditioned or replaced correctly. So in brief: Complete strip to bare metal shell, the floors were replaced with genuine panels & the works have been done to a high standard. The engine was rebuilt and the gear box overhauled. The handbrake cable was changed, clutch replaced, all pedals changed, the petrol tank was fully refurbished and flushed. The interior was also fully and expertly retrimmed in green / cream along with the complete door card set & all interior trim was renewed. All other items of interior trim were refurbished or replaced. All lights were overhauled & the correct aluminium surrounds were machine polished, all rubber items were replaced including the door seals, window & side window seals, new bushes fitted, new struts, complete brake system replacement, new starter motor and a new exhaust, in fact every mechanical item was either refurbished or replaced.
The bumpers & brackets were replaced, the original steel wheels were fully shot blasted & refurbished. The car was fully painted whilst stripped to bare shell (Inside & out) at this time in the original period shade of Fiat 263 Verde Chiaro that you see today. This includes the wheel arches & the underside was treated to a sensible coat of underseal, which should last for another 55 years. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top.
This truly impressive example is just showing 37,154 KM believed the correct mileage from new. It has travelled less than 1000 KMs since restoration, infact the owner has kept a hand written mileage log which comes with the vehicle.
Since being in our possession, we have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted a full external, glass out repaint to show standards as the little chap had picked up a handful of storage scratches over his travels. Removed the engine & fitted a new premium Italian full clutch kit. Removed the gearbox & sent it to out specialist to be overhauled as we were not happy with the reverse gear selection. We also painted the engine covers & engine bay whilst the motor was out on the bench. We fitted 4 new premium Pirelli tyres with new white wall spats & 4 new hub caps, nuts & washers. Removed, flushed & painted the fuel tank. Fitted a new Varta battery, made & fitted a full new sunshine roof in grey premium mohair. Fitted new front & rear chrome bumpers. Fitted a new exhaust system, brakets & gaskets. Fitted the correct D engine decal set, spare tyre strap, rear seat strap, engine cover plate, chrome wing mirror, sun visors, heat shield pad, adjusted the steering geometry, supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a multipoint check, replaced the fuel with £25 of new super unleaded, tuned the carb, set the timing, fitted a premium coil, adjusted & cleaned the brakes & given the cheeky little chap a full service (plugs, fuel filter, air filter etc) just to be sure! Given the underside a professional clean & applied a thin coat of Wurth premium underseal spray gun applied. Fitted a new boot mat & 500 Key ring. ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a period luggage rack & period picnic hamper. The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy.

The car looks pretty much as new & is no doubt as good as when it left the factory in 1962. Its probably one of the best examples in Europe for the price asked. This is a collectors opportunity and a superb investment & hence this cheeky chappy is now UK registered, has a fresh MOT & is being offered for sale for the first time on our shores.
