1979 Fiat 2000 Spider Convertible (124)
1979 Fiat 2000 Spider (124) Description
I bought this car as a restoration project with my dad. The guy we bought it from had it in his garage and had owned it for years. His intention was to get it running for his wife, but never got around to it and sold it to get back his garage space. I'm now in the same lack of space situations, but I did restore most of the car and it now runs great. I've used it as a daily driver all summer for the last 4 years.
My father and I did a lot of work to make this a wonderful little roadster.
Mechanically we:
- replaced the rear differential and brakes
- replaced the front and rear main seals in the engine (leaks no oil)
- replaced all belts
- replaced distributor cap and ignition components
- replaced spark plugs and plug wires
- replaced the master cylinder (still has a slow break fluid leak somewhere else)
- replaced the clutch
- replaced the clutch cable
- upgraded the old carb with a new Weber 32/36 DFEV with 1/2" spacer (huge performance and drivability improvement, plus it sounds sweet when the secondary opens up)
- upgraded air filter to a large chrome filter box with washable filter
- New low road noise tires (including spare)
Cosmetically we:
- Stripped the car and repainted it with new paint (matched the shade and hue, but add in pearl and metallic to really make it pop and look sweet). Still have paint mix codes and small bottle for touch ups
- Re-upholstered seats (still have a partial roll of seat material I'll include)
- Re-covered the console
- Re-carpeted the interior
- Built new door panels and covered them with the same material as the seats (still have some of the material that I will include incase it's needed in the future)
- Built new trunk floor
- Replaced the rear window in the top
- Pioneer radio/CD player with Bluetooth phone connection and directional microphone (really helps when talking on the phone while driving. Others can actually hear you)
- New Fiat emblems
Areas that could still be done:
- Boot cover for when the top is down is still Orange and could be died
- The top is in good shape and recently re-waterproofed but will need replaced in the next few years
- Slow break fluid leak (have to add break fluid once every other month)
- Needs new Pinifarina emblems

I forgot to include that the battery is only 1 year old. There is also a new boot to cover the shifter that I just haven't installed yet (in the pictures the shift boot is missing). I will also be including a car cover that I use when I put the car in storage for the winter.
Thank you all for you interest in this wonderful car and happy bidding.

I had a question about rust that may be relevant for everyone. The car has no rust on it, and has lived most of it's life being garaged. It has lived in the dryer climates of Idaho and Utah and as long as I've owned it I hasn't been driven on snow or encountered road salt. When we repainted and redid the interior there were a few spots in the floor that were just starting to show signs of rust so we fixed them all.
