Description

The Old Oregon Motor Company presents:

1987 Fiat Bertone X1/9. Rosso Metallic/Black leather. 41K miles from new. A previous owner bought this car in 2011 in somewhat neglected condition. Over the course or two ownerships (he sold it once and then bought it back) and five years he completely refurbished the car mechanically, and also did some cosmetic work such as recovering the seats in leather and refinishing the intricate wheels at great expense. Total refurbishment cost was at least $6500 even though this owner did much of his own work... and we spent an additional $2500. This work was detailed in a series of posts on xweb forums. Paint looks great from 10 feet but up close there is some slight rash on the nose as well one or two small dents...but nothing to detract from the overall excellent presentation. The clear coat is cloudyon a small section of the cowl. When we bought the car there were three small rust spots in three of the four lower body corners (the right front was spared). There were also some bubbles on the passenger door. All of this rust was repaired and the sections repainted. This was all high quality work. Previous owner re-worked the entire interior, including new Bertone branded leather, door panels, sun visors, shifter gait bag, new carpets, and new "b" branded shift knob. New factory "b" branded steering wheel. Dash and all other plastics are excellent. Zero splices in the completed wiring harness. All electronics work. Nakamichi detachable-face CD stereo unit works well. Some of the technical work includes a complete new exhaust system with header, heat shield, muffler, and tail pipe...complete braided hood, trunk, engine cover, and throttle cables...aluminum trunk/engine cover lever housing....powder-coated sill rails, air filter box, rear muffler valance, and muffler mount...factory "dial up" rims were sandblasted, powder coated, CNC machined, and clear coated with theaforementioned very expensive center caps...tune up at 38K miles including spark plugs, plug wires, distributor rotor and cap, all belts, radiator cap, fuel filter, cooling system flush, and Bosch oxygen sensor...new Bosch cold start valve...new Bosch air meter...complete front and rear KYB "Black" struts...brand new Brembo rotors and pads...new brake and clutch master cylinders and clutch slave cylinder...new fuel lines....and new tires. All this work was performed in the last 3000 miles. AC is non-functional but was said to have worked within the last few years...we have not examined it. Speedometer cable clicks and the needle bounces a little...probably needs the short 10" upper cable replaced.
This wonderful X1/9 was driven from Oregon down Highway 101 and Highway 1 to Monterey last August and back up to Oregon on Interstate 5. The car was driven with a lot of vigor, performed flawlessly, and was displayed at Concorso Italiano with great pride. This X is more expensive than most you will see. One of approximately 1200 imported in the final year for the X1/9 in America. One of the very best left. Styled by the incomparable Marcello Gandini, the same man who designed the immortal Lamborghini Countach. Good luck!
