All parts came from Midwest Bayless before the recent buyout. I have the timing cover for the car, it is the correct metal cover for 1976.
SEE PHOTOS/VIDEO AT BOTTOM OF THIS LISTING. CLICK THE VIEW ALL BUTTON TO BE DIRECTED TO BIGGER AND BETTER QUALITY PHOTOS/VIDEO( I will have the driving video up tomorrow). The pictures at the bottom do not show up on a mobile device but the view all button is there.
The transmission is stock, as well as the head, although the head has been completely gone through at time of new engine, which was just installed. I am selling this for a friend, who also tasked me with getting the new engine running, car driving, etc. I will list all the purchases (which is very lengthy) at the bottom of the listing. I have receipts for everything listed...all $18K worth.
The only items I had to address were a small driver floor repair, which I had done professionally (see photos), a new top professionally installed and new carpet. The car runs and drives like new...no issues. OK, here are the details:
BODY: Exceptional showing no signs of wrecks ever. The paint is a 7.5 out of 10. There are no runs and it shines up amazing...I have not even waxed it!!! There are some divots here and there from lacking surface prep I imagine....but the paint is very nice overall. There are only a couple spots of rust that have popped up. One spot at front bottom of driver door, one spot at bottom of driver rear quarter behind the wheel at the very bottom and one spot on the very bottom of the driver side of the valance(see photos). Other than those minor spots, this is a very clean and rust free body. The chrome trim that goes behind each door needs final attaching.....I am not a body guy, so I will leave that up to the new owner. Brand new vinyl top by EZ-ON,professionally installed at a cost of $425.00 plus cost of top. All glass is good, weather stripping is all new. The driver floor had two areas that needed patching...I hired a local guy and he professionally repaired the two spots(see photos). I POR-15'd the floors after this was done, just for extra protection. The underside is very solid for this model of Fiat. I have seen MANY 124's with horrible corrosion underneath....this one is solid, transmission mount is solid...floors solid..etc...see photos.
INTERIOR: Very, very nice. Rear seats show a few splits...front seats are great. New carpet.
ENGINE: OK, here is the rundown....at approximately 41K miles, the original engine and head was completely rebuilt with 84mm high compression 4mm rise Bayless pistons 9:8 to 1 ratio.. At the same time, new U-joints, tie rods, shocks, ball joints, control arms, brake calipers, rotors, master cylinder, starter, motor mounts, radiator and all rubber bushings underneath were replaced. The Dual Weber DCNF 40 carbs(specially setup and jetted by Art Bayless) were also installed at this time along with an aftermarket header, new clutch kit, etc.. After driving it for a few thousand miles to around 43K.....it simply was too much car for he and his wife.....as they live in a smaller residential community not close to any country roads, etc....He said he was always spinning the tires too much...so he decided to order a brand new 1800 short block from Midwest Bayless to calm the car down. He had the head from the original (freshly rebuilt) engine installed on the new shortblock, then installed in the car. From then until now he never got it finished...which is where I came in. I double checked everything, performed a break-in of the engine and everything is doing very well. There should be a photo in the link showing the clean inside of the combustion chamber before I fired it off.
So, whatever happened to the newly rebuilt original shortblock with the high comp pistons??? I have that also. It is not included in the sale....but I will offer it to the winning bidder first, then to any other interested party. My plans for it are to find a suitable Fiat to install it in...maybe a 1200 or 1500 cabriolet? Possibly a HEAVILY modified 850 sedan/coupe/spider(pipe dream)...and of course, maybe an early 1st series 124.
CHASSIS: New brakes, calipers, rotors, master cylinder. New control arms, ball joints, universal joints, carrier bearing, flex-joints, all suspension bushings front and rear. New KYB shocks front and rear. New Sumitomo HTR200 tires 185/60-14 on Pininfarina era wheels. New axle bearings and seals. Car drives like new.
ELECTRICAL: All items working except for heater fan. The heater core is brand new, but has not been hooked up yet. I could not figure out the tie-in's for the hoses...so I will leave that to the new owner.
WHAT WOULD I DO: No thing really to do except to enjoy it!!! I would have the top cables checked and adjusted, since a new top will stretch a little. Have the chrome pieces installed behind the doors and you are 100% on the body.
HERE IS THE EXTENSIVE LIST OF ALL WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE....IT IS LONG...BUT I FIGURED I WOULD LIST IT FOR THOSE WHO HAVE GOTTEN THIS FAR.
I have tried to make a very extensive listing. I am a 100% positive feedback user for over 15 years. I expect the same level of professionalism from any interested buyers. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Buyer is responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements. I can deliver within a couple of hundred, NOT THOUSANDS, of miles for a fee.
OK, here is all the stuff I have to state for the brilliance of the world:
IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 100 FEEDBACK, YOU MUST CONTACT ME BEFORE BIDDING, IF NOT, YOUR BID WILL BE CANCELED, NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!
PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF AUCTION END. CAR MUST BE PICKED UP WITHIN 14 DAYS OF AUCTION END. A STORAGE FEE OF $25/ PER DAY WILL BE APPLIED THEREAFTER.
