The 1940 Ford Coupe is one of the most iconic American automobile body styles of all time, and certainly one of the most popular, whether in bone-stock form or the Street Rod variety. That being said, there are definitely lots of examples out there, but rarely do I come across one that I consider to be ‘perfect’.
‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is proud to offer you this absolutely stunning 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe Street Rod built as a Bootlegger tribute on steroids! I consider this machine to be as close to the ‘perfect’ 1940 Ford Coupe that I have ever seen! This is a no-expense spared build done to the highest possible standards! Built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, this gorgeous Ford Coupe started with an all original, all steel 1940 Ford body that was all there, w/ zero rust anywhere on the car. The body work is second to none with a fit & finish that has to be seen to truly appreciate. The original sheet metal is laser straight all the way around, and all body panels fit perfectly w/ gaps that are as precise as they get! Modifications include: removal of the vent glass (similar to a 1939 for a much cleaner look), removal of bumper guards on the front, & recessed firewall. Other features include: all new smoke tinted glass from Mr. 40’s, polished stainless bumper brackets, chrome ‘chin’ below the grille, polished stainless hood support arms, & new inner fenders & running boards. The glossy black paint is done in old-school lacquer, with an ultra-shiny appearance that looks a mile deep! There are no chips, no blemishes and no distractions whatsoever. The bodywork & paint are simply as fine as it gets, period! The original stock frame, which was painted in a black epoxy, was modified by boxing the front & rear sections, and the crossmember was completely reinforced. Front suspension includes: Heidts ‘Super Ride’ (which consists of a tuned package of coilovers), rack & pinion steering, anti-sway bar & Wilwood Front Disc brakes. Rear suspension includes: Competition Engineering leaf spring kit (parallel) w/ traction bars, anti-sway bar, & drum brakes. Fuel is held in a Rock Valley polished stainless steel tank. Please look closely at the undercarriage photos and you will see how nicely everything was done. Another very important factor in building the ‘perfect’ Street Rod is stance, and I can safely say that the aggressive low stance on this car is the best that I’ve seen on a 1940 Ford Coupe. It sits on 15” steel wheels w/ Mini Moon hubcaps, wrapped w/ new BF Goodrich radials (P195/65/R15 up front & P235/70/R15 on the rear). You can walk around the car a hundred times and never find a bad angle.
Open the driver’s door, and you will find a beautiful custom made black vinyl interior that was done by Harold Pittman of Carolina Rods & Interiors. Features include: glide seat system w/ dual adjustable back sections, aluminum dash insert w/ full set of VDO gauges, Ididit tilt-steering column, padded banjo steering wheel from the Wheel Shop, Vintage Air Monster Superflow AC system, Mr. 40’s electric cowl vent, Mr. 40’s AM/FM radio w/ rear speakers, VDO knee-knocker tachometer, New Port electric wiper assembly, under-dash kill switch, and all fuses/wiring by Haywire. This gorgeous interior is extremely comfortable & highly functional. No matter what your height or weight, you will fit comfortable in this car due to the fully adjustable seating.
Now let’s get to the heart of this beast, shall we?
Open the hood, and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay you will find a new 502ci GM Performance ZZ502/500HP motor topped w/ a Hillborn Electronic Fuel Injection system (EFI) w/ FAST XFI. Other features include: Vintage-Style Moon Valve Covers, complete Serpentine System w/ Polished Pulleys, ARP Bolts & Hardware throughout, Sanderson Short Ceramic Headers, 2.5" Exhaust w/ Crossover Pipe & Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow Mufflers, & custom built 4-core Aluminum Radiator by Griffin w/ Blow Through electric fan. This mean motor is linked to a Tremec TKO 500 5-Speed Manual Transmission, featuring a GM Aluminum Bellhousing, Center Force Flywheel, Dual Friction Clutch & Pressure Plate, Inland Empire 3” Steel Drive Shaft, which feeds power to an asphalt shredding Ford 9" Limited Slip Rear End (28 Spline Axles) w/ 3.70 Gears. Let me tell you folks, I have driven dozens of 1940 Ford Coupes, but I have never experienced anything like this! This car starts, idles, runs, drives & performs flawlessly in every way, and is an absolute blast to drive! It is fast, fast, FAST, pulling hard through all four gears, and it has more power & torque than you will ever need in your life! It also sounds out of this world! More importantly, it is extremely solid in every way, with no vibrations, rattles, or unwanted noises whatsoever! The steering & braking is incredible, and when you get it out on the freeway, it tracks straight & true! The heavy-duty 4-core Griffin Radiator keeps it running nice & cool even in super-hot desert weather w/ the Vintage AC blowing strong!
I truly believe that you will not find a finer example of a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe anywhere @ any price! Whether you are looking to win First Place & ‘Best of Show’ awards at national level car events, or simply want the best looking & best driving 1940 Ford 5-Window Coupe in the country, this is your car!
