Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Factory Gauges, Deluxe Interior
What started out a fixer-upper shop truck morphed into a full on restoration. We still need a shop truck and with all the time and money spent on this truck it’s time to start over.
The rebuilt 390 engine is strong and runs excellent. It has a Crane thumper style cam for a mean, lumpy idle. Edelbrock aluminum intake and carb handle fuel supply. Ignition is managed by a Pertonix electronic billet distributor. Exhaust is handled by ceramic coated Hedmen Headers, a 3” X-Pipe, 12” x 3” glasspacks, 3” straight pipes all the way to the back exiting through 4” stainless tips coming through the bumper. This truck is loud and proud. New aluminum radiator keeps things running cool.
- ATCI shift kit was installed in the C6. The transmissionhas a noticeable leak that appears to coming from the front seal. The kickdown linkage is missing and I am looking for the correct part. The limited slip Dana 60 differential with 3.73 gears works perfectly.
- Power steering makes this truck a joy to wheel around town and includes a fluid cooler. Power disc brakes are dual-piston. The upgraded brake system has been completely rebuilt or refurbished with many new parts, lines, hoses, master cylinder, etc. Parking brake is not working, but all brackets, cables, handles etc. are in place.
- Steering and suspension components have been overhauled, refurbished, or replacedwith new bushings, seals, etc. Steers and tracks straight. The ¾ ton springs are surprisingly plush. New front shocks andnew rear air-assist shocks. Rear ride height lowered about 2.5 inches, and front ride height dropped 3/4”. Alignment looks good. I think front could be dropped another ½” without any issues.
- Wheel / Tire combo is staggered. Wheels and tires are brand new. 275/60/17 rear tires, 245/70/16 fronts. Rims are Ion aluminum with polished outer and gloss black center with chrome caps and lug nuts.
- New polyurethane front cab mounts and radiator support mounts.
- Frame, underside, and bed was cleaned, treated,andpainted/coated with either Por 15, or Rustoleum Satin Industrial paint.
- Body and paint work was done in our shop. Three-tone finish is black, Ford orange, and Wimbledon White. It took a lot of work. Not a perfect job with some orange peel, dirt, nicks, swirls, etc. 3 coats ofclear was applied, wet sanded, buffed, and polished. Pin stripes are vinyl.
- New carpet, sound deadener, and heat shielding was installed over the painted floor. The seat was professionally upholstered with black and white vinyl, and orange stitching. The original embossed “FORD” section of the original seat was salvaged and sewn into the new cover
- All the factory gauges work and include oil pressure, water temp, alternator, and fuel. Speedo works. The dash pad is original and has some cracks. I'm still looking for nicer one as they don't make reproductions. Headliner and zipper door pockets are restored/refurbished originals, and upper door panels are new.
- New interior door and window handles, window seals, door rubber seals, windshield rubber, and vent seals. New tail light bezels, front signal lenses. Other new parts include heater core, belts, hoses, fittings, front wheel bearings and seals, nuts, bolts, bed and trim fasteners. Halogen headlights, tail light wiring, headlight switch, peep mirror, battery.
Tons of time and money went into this truck. Mechanical work is excellent, but its still an old truck so expect some tinkeringover time.It catches your eyes, and your ears. The paint and finish has some blemishes, and it has been driven, but gets"thumbs up" wherever it goes. Hope you like it too!
