This is a 1965 Mustang Fastback GT black on black Project car. This car came from the factory as an "A-code GT" and is not a clone. The car has the factory hole in the dash where the fog light switch is, unique holes on the radiator support, larger sway bar, front disc, larger master cylinder and the original proportion valve. The 65's used a special 5 gauge cluster (versus the regular 1965 dummy gauges) so from the factory the area it sits in has a bevel- a great way to confirm a factory GT. The gauge cluster is also stamped in the back C5Z which makes it a very rare find since if you put a 66 gauge cluster in it would have a C6Z stamping. This is a power steering car with HCC-AW tag.
This is a rare find but is not a paint and go type of project as it needs a full restoration. The car has been sitting for a while, and I haven’t been able to do anything with it, so I’ve decided to sell. The engine in it is most likely a 66 289 and has a 2bl - versus from the factory it was a 289 4bl car. The car was an automatic from the factory and still retains a factory C4 AT transmission. The auction includes a clutch pedal in case you want to buy a 4spd and convert over some day. The engine ran about a year ago but was removed and sat in my garage for some time- the engine and trans are now back in the car for transport but the torque converter needs to be installed. The car doesn't start/run or stop.
The car has been patched up over the years; envision the car you did at 16yrs old in 1980- basic handy man resto work. There are patches around the car with ugly seam seal, quarters were done with skins versus full quarters so there is bondo on the car and the welding was done at the seams versus factory style spot welds. I was thinking about doing a concours restoration with proper factory like spot welds etc, and if I have to pay a restoration shop to get it to that level it will cost me way more than it’s worth, so this car may be better for someone not looking for a top flight restoration or for someone more handy than I am. The factory GT exhaust supports are still on the rear floor and one's been repaired at the bottom. The rear rails may have been replaced at one point. Overall there's no big rust holes, as you can see in the pictures, and it seems reasonably solid but has a lot of patching so its not as pretty as an all original untouched car (but not as expensive either). The hood, doors and trunk are still factory Ford but will need restoration. The pass door is rotted at the inside bottom and will need replacement. The trunk lid lip will need work on the outside.
What you see in the pictures is just what you get. The glass is all there, fastback window weatherstrip channels etc. The original VIN stamps are there on the aprons, have the door tag but no bucktag (not sure if there was one originally but figured I would specify before the question gets asked). There are some new parts on the car like ft suspension pieces, rear leaf springs, new front disc rotors, gas tank etc. I had the car partially apart but had it bolted back up just enough to get it transport ready.
Selling the car as is - where is. NO TITLE - CT doesn't issues titles for cars this old and I don't have an old one or any registration to supply, so what you will be getting with the car is an Official Connecticut Bill of Sale Form H-31 – and that’s all you will get. Please check with your local department of motor vehicles before bidding to see if this will be enough for your state. I don't think you can ship a car overseas without a title so please do your research before bidding.
A deposit of $200 is due within 48 hours and full payment within 7 days of auction close. The car and paperwork will be released once payment clears. This is a NO RESERVE auction.
