1972 Ford Custom 500 sedan 302 V-8
1972 Ford Five Hundred Description
This listing is for a 1972 Ford Custom 500 four door sedan. It has the 302 V-8 engine, which is a little unusual in a full-sized '72 Ford. Even the army and air force versions had the 351C engine. Heavy duty C-4 automatic transmission. Power steering. Unassisted drum service brakes, 1972 last year this feature was available on full-sized Ford. Heavy duty three row radiator. 9 inch removable carrier conventional differential. Heavy duty station wagon wheels and tires.
I bought this car used in 1995. It had about 94,000 miles on it then, now about 113,000 so I haven't driven it so much in 21 years. Right after I got the car, the engine rod and main bearings were replaced, also the timing set. Shortly after that, the transmission was rebuilt. It's had some brake work done on it during the time I've owned it. Only electrical work needed was I replaced the ignition switch in 2006. Regular tune up stuff, headlamp bulbs., etc. Left front fender was replaced before I got the car due to collision damage. Car has clear glass except for driver's side window which is tinted, replaced before I got the car due to insurance claim. I've got a clear glass driver's side window that can go with the car if buyer wants it.
Car received an amateur paint job in Summer, 2012, looks pretty good. 20 foot paint job, they'd call it I guess. Original color. Tires have lots of tread left, not new but not weatherchecked or cracked either. Car interior is completely original, nylon fabric seat inserts are brittle and have split in places, the vinyl is still good. Carpets good, not rotten, some dirt here and there. Door trim panels are good. Rear package tray has a few holes drilled in it. Dashboard is intact, no holes or cracks in padded section. Shows dirt from storage in pictures, would clean up nicely with Windex and a rag. Car is garaged at my daughter's house so I don't get over to it very often. Interior smells musty but NO MOUSE URINE odor. Engine compartment is dirty, some light surface rust, I've never been one to detail engine rooms. No body rot.
I try to get over to the car and drive it once a month or so but sometimes it doesn't happen. However, it starts and drives right away, stops good, runs down the freeway well. Fairly new battery, less than a year old. You could drive it home.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS CAR, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MESSAGE ME. I'LL TELL YOU ANYTHING I KNOW ABOUT IT. It's wise to ask questions BEFORE you bid, thanks.
