1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD
1965 Ford Galaxie Galaxie 500 LTD Description
1965 Ford Galaxie 500 LTD - 2 Door Coupe. Top of the line Model at the time and most desirable today.
Lots of childhood memories with this car. Finally bought it from Grandpa 6 years ago. He had it since the early 1970's. Purchased new by original owner in Minneapolis (original owners manual and dealer owner registration card in glove box). Was Grandma's car but she didn't drive much. Grandpa had an "old school" restoration done almost 30years ago which included quality repaint in the original Ford Galaxie "Twilight Turquoise" color, seats upholstered in vintage green fabric, headliner and visors redone in dark green fabric and dropped in a 351 Windsor to replace the original 390 engine. The paint and interior look like they were justdone!
This car was always garage kept until recently when room had to be made for another car in the garage. This is really themain reason for selling as I do not want to keep it outside. Over the last 15 yearsit hasn't beendriven regularly. Cranks right up and drives very nicely, just not used enough so it's time for it to move on to someone who will use and enjoy it the way it deserves to be. This car still cruises at 70mph gliding down the highway!
Recently installed are a new alternator and belts, radiator hoses, brake linesandfuel filters. The 351 W should be given a tune up and gone over. The transmission shifts smooth and is without issues. Some things that need fixed are the speedometer and dash lights and the fuel gauge. These are not working and haven't looked into troubleshooting.Dual exhaust - pipe on driver side has a small hole towards the rear.
Cosmetically, the car shows very nicely. The body is razor straight and has no rust on the quarters or around the rear window. Floor pans are solid but both the driver and passenger side front floor pans have a small rust spot. These are small and the larger on the passenger side is about the size of a fist. The trunk pan has only surface rustbut is also very solid. The Twilight Turquoise paint is slick and while not a showroom finish, it does look great especially in direct sunlight.
The interior is very attractive and in excellent shape. Only a couple of small cracks on the dash and some minor warping on the pad. The seats were done with nice craftsmanship and with era correct materials. The horn ring is broken as shown but the horn does work. The heater and air vents work as well. Carpet and door panels are original and have normal signs of wear but show very nicely still.
The chrome on the rear bumper shows some pitting as you can clearly see in one of the photos but it is not terrible. The front bumper has no pitting but has normal wear. All of the stainless trim is in very nice condition.
All of the glass is in very nice shape and functional. Driver rear quarter window seal needs replacing. All windows open and close as they should.
Tires are brand new on original wheels and hub caps. There is no spare tire but the original jack and hardware is included.
The car is a real head turner and always gets attention and compliments at the gas station or down at the local store.
