1973 Highboy F250 - low miles, some upgrades
1973 Ford F-250 Description
1973 F250 4x4 Highboy
360 V8, 4 spd toploader trans, NP205 transfer case
All indications that we have found show that this vehicle may only have 40,000 miles on it - for example, when the intake manifold was pulled, the thermostat still had the original Ford date code from 1972 in it. Still had the original fiber/metal cam timing gear as well; so it obviously hadn't been changed in the last 43 years...
Things that have been done to it in the last year or so:
New brakes all around (new pads and drums)
New power steering pump
New power steering ram
New timing chain
New thermostat
New water pump
New Edelbrock intake manifold (4 barrel conversion)
New Holley 4 barrel carb with electric choke
New distributor, GM HEI style
New plugs and wires
New starter
Removed mechanical fan, replaced with dual electric fans and adjustable temp fan controller - has switch in cab for manual operation
Installed tachometer in dash
At some point, A/C had been added to the truck and then mostly removed - we removed the rest of the components and covered the holes in the dash
Cleaned up some of the cobbled together wiring, returning it to stock configuration
Previous owner put an aftermarket steering wheel on it, and the horn button doesn't fit
At some point it had a second fuel tank installed, but that's all been removed
Work it still needs:
Parking brake cables need to be replaced (online for around $150)
Flywheel ring gear needs to be replaced due to broken teeth (new ring gear is around $25, but have to pull the monstrously heavy transmission to replace it)
Needs some minor body work (see pics)
