1963 Ford Galaxie 500 4dr Sedan 95% Original vehicle Rebuilt 289 Solid
1963 Ford Galaxie 4dr. Sedan Description
Available is a 1963 Galaxie 500 4 door sedan. I believe all of the vehicle to be original other than the forward driver side door which was replaced at some time in the past. I had the 289ci engine rebuilt and it has less than 15 miles on it. The 2 barrel carburetor has also been rebuilt. All 4 tires plus the spare were bought new a few years back and have less than 50 miles on them. The tread is great but they have been on the car some time. It has been garage stored the entire time though. The glass is perfect all around. The headlights, tail lights, turn signals function without fault. The plastic lenses on the tail lights and turn indicators are clear and unbroken. The length wise trim on the trunk has been removed but is present as is the top section on the driver side door interior and driver side mirror. The floor boards are solid as is the vast majority of the vehicle. The odometer reads 95,810. The door codes are as follows: Body 54A, Color 1M, Trim 28A, Date 04F, DSO 22, Axle 4, Trans 4. The car posses Power Steering but not Power Brakes. The car has a clear and clean title. I have started and run the engine at regular intervals.
Now for the bad stuff; the FMX Cruise-o-Matic transmission does not shift out of first gear. The 15 miles that were driven were at 20mph or less. My hope was that it was gummed up and putting cleansing agents within would free it up. Needless to say it did not. The ball joints will also have to be replaced as will the weather seals. The brakes function but the right front does pull to the right when engaged. There is a small rubber fixture that holds the shifting armature to the transmission that has deteriorated and fallen out. See close up of area in question in the 2nd to last picture below. I have a friend that might have an extra, he owns two 63's himself. If I can obtain it, it will be included of coarse. The headliner has opened at the seams due to age. The original upholstery is not torn but is faded and thin in places.
There is some slight damage near the bottom of the right front wheel well from scarping on a frame of a trailer it was being loaded on. There are small bits of surface rust where the paint has chipped in a few places and some slight bubbling along the trim at various places. The only place of any serious rust is in the trunk from the result of the previous owner not replacing the weather seal and having it uncovered. Rain was allowed to get in and cause damage to the ledge and lips that hold the weather seal. It also caused rust on the bottom of the truck, clear through in a couple places. The rubber plug is present but not installed in the pictures below. The previous owner had taken the dash lights/wires down to work on them and/or replace the lights but never completed the task. I never got to it myself either.
It's definitely not perfect but not horrible for a 53 year old car and should be a good restoration project for someone with means and skill, sadly neither of which I possess, hence why I am parting with it. Being permanently disabled and on Social Security I will never have the funds to complete the restoration I initialized.
